It was on this day in 1980, that a deranged autograph seeker shot and killed John Lennon in front of the Dakota apartments in New York City. It serves no purpose to mention his name because it was that type of publicity he was seeking. The world lost a terrific artist and proponent of peace. Back then, there was no internet. The terrible news was relayed on Monday Night Football by the iconic announcer Howard Cosell. Here is the tape of that call:
