Loaded handgun at Timon-Canisius game

Six teenagers were arrested and a loaded gun was confiscated following Wednesday night's Manhattan Cup basketball final between Bishop Timon and Canisius High Schools. From what I've been told, at least one of the six arrested was a student at Timon...

Six teenaged boys were arrested on felony charges of possessing a loaded handgun and other charges following a fight in the parking lot of the Canisius College Koessler Center about 9 p.m. Wednesday after a high school basketball championship game there.

Buffalo police reported finding a loaded handgun in one of the suspect’s vehicles. All six, two aged 16, one 17-year-old two 18-year-olds and a 19-year old were all charged with felony possession of a loaded firearm, weapons possession and six counts of disorderly conduct for allegedly violent behavior during a fight, unreasonable noise, obscene language and gestures, unlawful assembly and refusing to move on.

This is an isolated incident, as the majority of kids from both of these schools are not involved in this type of behavior. A very sad ending to what I heard was a good game between the two rival schools.

Letter to the Editor: Rising fuel prices

I agree with this letter writer from Holland, NY. People need to open their eyes to the things going on around them. Congressmen hold press conferences about trivial things like steroids in baseball and NFL blackouts, yet do nothing about the rising costs of gasoline. For people living paycheck to paycheck, gas costs are a huge issue.

In NY state, much of the cost can be attributed to our ridiculously high state taxes, yet you won't hear a peep on this issue from our Assemblymen or State Senators. Why are we paying them $90,000 per year again? Useless...

Politicians must act to reduce fuel prices

Paying $4 a gallon for fuel is ridiculous! Wake up, New York. Wake up, America. Get informed and get involved. Are your wages going up as fast as the fuel prices or food prices? No. But your failing presidents and political minions are. When will people start to complain? When will they take five minutes and tell all the politicians to do their job or get out? I’m tying an American flag on my antenna to show them all I protest the job politicians are doing and to protest the way-too-high price of fuel.

Bloomberg is out of control

As I've written before, New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg thinks he has the right to control residents. Under his new law, pizza parlors are now forbidden from delivering two liter soda bottles along with pizzas in New York. What's next? No blue cheese? From the New York Post...

Typically, a pizzeria charges $3 for a 2-liter bottle of Coke. But under the ban, customers would have to buy six 12-ounce cans at a total cost of $7.50 to get an equivalent amount of soda.

“It’s ludicrous,” said Robert Bookman, a lawyer for the New York City Hospitality Alliance. “It’s a sealed bottle of soda you can buy in the supermarket. Why can’t they deliver what you can get in the supermarket?”

Even places like Chuck E. Cheese will no longer be able to sell pitchers of soda at children's birthday parties under Bloomberg's draconian rules. I try to advocate good health, but when did it become the government's job to tell it's citizens how to live? Bloomberg is a tyrant who cannot even plow the street's of his city after a minor snowfall. But he thinks it's governments' job to tell people how to live. The scary part?: He wants to be our next President.

Bloomberg’s large-soda ban also prohibits 2-liter bottles with pizza orders and some bottle-service mixers at nightclubs - NYPOST.com

Hammer time

Whenever you see the words "aspiring rapper" or "former rapper" in a headline, you know the outcome of the article is not going to be pleasant.  The suspect was charged with 3rd Degree Impersonation of Rick James, a felony...

Police in Dublin, east of Oakland, said Hammer was in a vehicle with expired registration and he was not the registered owner.

"After asking Hammer who the registered owner was he became very argumentative and refused to answer the officer's questions," police spokesman Herb Walters wrote Saturday evening in an e-mail to CNN.
Yo, let me bust those funky lyrics...

Trashers

You know IPads are gaining in popularity when the white trash element begin using them as projectiles...

A 31-year-old Roanoke Parkway man was arrested early Thursday for allegedly throwing a Kindle reader device at the head of a female neighbor during an argument.

James Macey, was taken into custody shortly after midnight when police found him at Seneca and Stevenson streets. He was charged with third-degree assault and second-degree harassment.

Seneca and Stevenson Street? No word yet on whether the suspect was on foot or on skateboard.  Five years later and the Blogger is still making you laugh with ridonkulous stories like this.

Nobody in charge

Way to be on top of things Mayor Brown and Streets Commissioner Stepniak. Two weeks after the Labatt's Pond Hockey Tournament that Wasn't, and the entire area on the waterfront is still littered with trash...

Fisherman Carl Shenk said, "I had to say something. Because it's plastic. It's going to be there forever."

From cardboard boxes, to banners, even to pieces of the party tents, trash litters the parking lot. But Shenk says what really got to him were the hundreds of plastic rings left over from six-packs, lying all over the pavement.

"That's not biodegradable, like the cardboard. You know, I fish the river all summer. I don't want to be pulling up plastic and dead fish that are caught in it, or ducks," Shenk said.

Two weeks! Wouldn't you think someone in the mayor's office would step up and take responsibility? I'm sorry I asked. Perhaps they were busy pulling off another One Sunset deal or bailing the mayor's delinquent son out of jail again. Keep up the great work guys. Detroit and Flint, Michigan: Here we come!

Still mad as hell

Local developer Carl Paladino had some interesting (and truthful) quotes yesterday on WBEN...

"If residents knew how irresponsible Tim Kennedy and Mark Grisanti were, they wouldn't trust them to babysit their children."

"Sam Hoyt spent 20 years doing nothing in Albany. Then he gets rewarded by Andrew Cuomo and put in charge of WNY development. Sam Hoyt wouldn't even know how to spell the word development."

The County's cheap housing plan

What a difference a year makes. When then County Comptroller Mark Poloncarz issued a scathing audit in 2012 on the county political appointees living almost rent free in houses within the County parks (including one in Wendt Beach). This is what he had to say...

Erie County Comptroller Mark Poloncarz produced a scathing report, indicating some properties were being rented to political appointees and county parks employees without public awareness.

Fast forward to 2013: Under Poloncarz leadership, the same properties are being rented to the same political appointees and same county parks employees without public awareness. Meet the new boss. He's the same as the old boss...

Poloncarz was clearly critical. But now, more than two years later, Mark Poloncarz is the County Executive and a new Parks Commissioner has been appointed. So who is renting the houses now?

A house at Ellicott Creek is still occupied by the secretary of the former parks commissioner. Jared Jackson is paying $550 a month plus utilities. True market value for a rental home like this is somewhere between $850 to $1,200 a month, according to veteran real estate agent with whom we consulted.

Erie County Comptroller Stefan Mychajliw is re-raising the issue, which may not seem like a big deal to some. It is, however, a big deal when you remember Poloncarz recently tried raising property taxes, claiming the county was broke. We're broke, yet we can rent these beautiful homes out to political appointees for less than half the market value? Give us a break Marky Mark.
