Council race

It's going to be interesting to see who gets appointed by the Buffalo Common Council to Mickey Kearns' vacant seat. Interestingly, I ran for this seat in 2001. September 11th, 2001. For obvious reasons, the election was postponed until two weeks later. The whole country was in shock. The last thing on anyone's mind was a Council Primary.

In a three person race, I ended up with 33% of the vote and finished 2nd to the incumbent. Unlike my city hall opponent's supporters, many of my supporters didn't even know when the rescheduled election would be. I can honestly say my heart wasn't in the race. Like most people, the 9/11 tragedy took overwhelming precedence. The following year, my election district, which had been South 25 forever, was switched to Lovejoy 12. This, despite the fact that it is nowhere near Lovejoy. People close to the city hall told me I had been gerrymandered in order to prevent another race four years later. I would like to run this year. However, despite living in the same house as I did 11 years ago, I no longer live in the district. But, don't despair, the Blogger knows there are more than one ways to skin a cat.

Due to his closeness to Kearns, Matt Fisher remains an unlikely choice by the majority faction of the Common Council. Still, Fisher has stated publicly he will be challenging the Council's pick in the September primary. We would like to know more about him. I've heard perennial Yes-man Tim Whalen is out. His shady brother-in-law, Orchard Park/Florida resident, James Keane must have spoken to him.

I have a gut feeling the Council's choice is going to be Kevin Overdorf. I spoke to Kevin by phone the other day. He laid out his resume and told me his plans for improving the district. He and Matt Fisher were both at one of our soccer games the other night. While I did chat with Overdorf, Fisher stayed away. Apparently, my vote isn't of great importance to him. I know I only represent one vote. However, I would like to know the background of each candidate before making that decision. I know Fisher came to New York State from Georgia, after Kearns delivered him a taxpayer funded position. I'm just not sure what he did before that. For all I know, he could be in the Witness Protection Program.

The Overdorf family has been very active in South Buffalo for years. Just about everyone has dealt with them for insurance purposes. And I can't think of another family who has done more to keep Bishop Timon's doors open than they have. Gene Overdorf, known affectionately as "The Mustache" by his kids, is a terrific guy who has coached every sport under the sun for decades. He now acts as the school's discipline enforcer (Mr. Stanley's old position). Ironic, since I've never heard a bad word spoken about him by anyone. Kevin has been very involved in maintaining the family business.

The Council will make their choice. The South Buffalo Committeemen will deliver their recommendation. The Blogger will make his choice. It's simply democracy at work. Those too important to tell me why I should support them should not complain later, when I discuss reasons why we shouldn't support them.

The South Buffalo Committemen met recently to discuss their pick. Interesting process to say the least...

  1. Who's Jiggins going to annoint?

See, that's this fool's biggest problem: his ego. If he was a secure human being he would surround himself with the best and the brightest minds available. Instead this pathetic Bobby Kennedy impersonator only hires yes-men and coat holders. He refuses to be challenged intellectually, so instead he puts the kind of people in positions he can manipulate and control. Trouble is, this fool can't even play the hard-ass ward boss. This light-weight is no Jimmy Griffin. Griffin also surrounded himself with fools, but at least he was street smart. This Jiggins is a clown, pure and simple. So what kind of act do we get from this circus clown? A kitschy Bobby Kennedy imitation and an army of brainless followers who never held an independent thought in their lives. Again, just nothing but more noise pollution from South Buffalo's self-annointed "First Families." Just what we need, more arrogant political hacks who feel entitled because they, their parents, their grand-parents, and their great grand parents have been greasing City Hall ward healers for as far back as they can remember. All so they can get a nice, no heavy lifting, no-show, City Hall job and a parks/pools job in the summer for their equally arrogant kids. Forget about everybody else and the good of our community!

This is why our city is the third poorest city in the nation. This is why Western New York is now described as the Appalachia of the 21st Century. We continually elect the same selfish scum over and over again, so they can line their pockets and provide only for those willing to pay the piper and play sleazy local politricks. Forget everybody else!

  2. Mike,

I would be glad to talk to you soon. Yesterday was a little crazy after the game and my son wanted to get home after he hit his chin playing soccer. I submitted my resume today and met with several of the Councilmembers also about the opening for South District Council. I look forward to discussing important issues and my experience in finding solutions for neighborhood problems. What I will not do is trash any other candidates especially using anonymous comments. To correct you, I am not from Georgia. I have lived in South Buffalo for over 35 years of my life(St. Ambrose parish and school) with a 7 year hiatus to Georgia where I started a family. We were expecting child #5(we now have six) , when me and my wife made the decision to move back to South Buffalo to raise our family here. I have in depth knowledge of the area and have worked on legislation and initiatives to improve it over the last four years. I have confidence in my experience, my work ethic and my support for this position. Any other questions, please feel free to contact me.

    Matt Fisher
    South District Council candidate

  3. I completely understand, Matt. One thing I will say is that you are a nice guy. I'm an outsider looking in and would have loved to have entered this race. Because of residency, I cannot. However, my opinions will be known.

  5. The comments you are making about Congressman Higgins and Senator Kennedy are against the law, the Buffalo Police Department and others are watching. Any notion of continued threats could place you in jail.

    1. never said that. those are your words. 33% in a three person race vs. Fahey's 37% in a two person race. Fahey spent $200,000. i spent about $3,000. and he ran as the endorsed democrat in a heavily democratic district. i ran against the endorsed democrat. and i didn't have one union endorsement.

''YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH, AS LONG AS YOU'RE NOT DUMB ENOUGH TO ACTUALLY TRY IT'' A US congressman and a State senator are ''demoralized'' by a blogger from the bastard part of south Buffalo, nice work Mike They tried to ignore you and that did not work, now they are crying to get you shut down. I guess they don't like the heat.

  11. Mike's never threatened anyone with violence on here. They're just jealous because they know he makes a lot of sense and people read it.

  12. Here's what I find funny: I've never made any type of physical threats on here or encouraged anyone to act violently. I am, however, the recipient of daily threats of violence from anonymous tough guys. I challenge anyone to find any post where I encourage violence against anyone. Clearly they are offended by the truth.

  13. First they ignored you, then they made up lies about you, now they are trying to shut you down. You are now the most powerful man in s.buffalo.

    2. Did you or did you not put political signs on the back of children in the form of soccer jerseys during your run? And you want to be a leader? Show some leadership.

And as for someone who consults his wife before moving back. That is what I consider to be a good man, someone who can work with others to accomplish a goal. How funny someone says "That says it all" What is wrong with respectful people doing respectful things?

Coming Soon: A new Blog will form soon and it will be relevant and help South Buffalo discuss things in an intelligent and effective way. No bashing or childish whining. South Buffalo deserves better!!

I'm as proud as the Lord I was born in the Ward!!!

    3. I did not sponsor any teams in 2001. In 1997, I sponsored teams when I was considering running against Bonnie Kane Lockwood (after she voted for the garbage tax).

When the anonymous poster referenced "me and my wife" in regards to Matt Fisher, I'm assuming they were referring to his grammar.... "My wife and I" would have been proper English. But I didn't post that because I'm not concerned about things like that.

In regards to your new blog: Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. What are you going to call it, My Anonymous Opinions? Good luck. It's much more work than you realize.

  14. You should put a picture of yourself on this blog so we can see what you look like. If you are so passionate about South Buffalo, why don't you say do something about instead of criticizing those who are working to fix it.

  15. If you have so much to say about the representatives from South Buffalo, why don't you say it to their face? Talking behind people's backs is not the right thing to do. Talking things out man-to-man, so to speak, is what you should do. Instead of being a coward, go and tell Brian Higgins to his face what you call him on your blog or Tim Kennedy for that matter.

    1. They're too arrogant to talk to someone like myself. I'd tell them exactly what I think about them to their face. How is this talking behind someone's back? My name is on every post. You're the one commenting in a nameless fashion. Sign your name.

I visit this blog frequently and have never read where Mike has expressed or implied that anyone take up violence against a politician.
The people making threats against him should be ones being investigated.
Mike - WTF are they talking about someone trying to shut your blog down ?!?! Please do a post about that, your followers need to know.

    1. I have no idea what they mean. Some of them must think we live in Communist China. "He questions Higgins and the local party hacks. I think we should shut him down." These people have been stealing jobs and money for years. Why should anyone be censored for questioning them. The only thing greater than their laziness is their stupidity.

    1. Why do you have to wait until next week? It only took me 15 minutes to set up mine. Who is "We"? If you're so confident in these accusations, why are you afraid to print your name.

By the way, I've never been arrested and I lead a law abiding life. As a teacher and coach, be careful what you say. I don't make threats regarding lawsuits like you losers. I follow through on things. Also, If you're close to Brian Higgins or Tim Kennedy (which I suspect you are), be prepared for some very serious accusations to be made about them. You can write whatever you want. Let's just see if you have the guts to sign on to what you write. I doubt you will, since I'm sure they are made up lies. But write them. I could use a good laugh.
