Cop accused of pot-growing operation | WIVB.com

This Buffalo cop lived on the West side, worked on the North side, and ran an undercover marijuana warehouse on the South side.

41 year old Jorge Melendez was videotaped going into his warehouse in full uniform, while on the clock, in another part of the city. Why someone making a good buck as a police officer, would risk it all, is beyond me. I will give Commissioner Derenda credit. He has been weeding out the scammers.

  1. i was at a block club meeting and was told the cops will not go after the drug dealers in the playgrounds because they are related to BPD and were working for them. I told the the person he was crazy , no cop would look the other way while drug dealers sold drugs in a playground for children. WELL I GUESS I WAS WRONG.

    1. This accusation is extremely off base. The majority of cops are honest and hardworking. Even if one or two cops are corrupt this would not be enough to protect drug dealers. For example let's say there are 8 cops working on a platoon and one is working with drug dealers. This would not prevent the 7 other cops on the platoon from going after drug dealers. To the public it may seem like police aren't going after drug dealers. In reality it is much more complicated. Police must follow the rules of the constitution and criminal procedure law. This means that a cop cannot walk up to someone and immediately go through their pockets or underwear without probable cause. Drug dealers know this and have perfected how to properly hide and sell drugs. Even if you arrest someone with marijuana, crack, or heroin they will usually be released the next morning. Even if the case is solid and they are convicted they will most likely be given a lenient ruling in court. This is the sad reality and this is why south buffalo is going down the drain.

when they will not get out of their car and do the job , i think it is obvious they are protecting the drug dealers.

  4. its hard for me to believe that other cops had no knowledge of jorge coming into south buffalo from his north buffalo post. if your a cop and u see another cop car on a dead end street in the middle of the night, your not wondering what the hell is going on? especially if the cop car is empty. ive always wondered about that same building because i saw the black camera on the front door. i was thinking theres gotta be something good in there because the machine shop accross the street didnt even have a camera like that. there was a blk prostitue in a bar recently and not too far away was a ..car. very shady.

  6. comparing dirty cops to aliens?
aliens are caught on camera all the time but they're never caught on camera checking on their pot plants on planet earth, when they're suppose to be patrolling mars.
