Scam alert

Do not let Lovejoy Councilman Richard Fontana choose your next representative.

Let the games begin. I'm already hearing of a low class attempt to appoint Councilman Kearns' successor on the Buffalo Common Council. The current Council members have the final say as to who your next representative will be. The majority of the Council is controlled by Council President Richard Fontana of the Lovejoy District.

From what I've been told, Fontana is pushing one of his aides for the seat. I honestly don't even know the guy's name. I only know that he's very tall and I met him one time. I do know that he's not from South Buffalo. (I believe he moved over to Eden Street within the last year.)

But, technically, none of this matters. If he qualifies, Fontana has the right to promote his candidacy based on the Council's current bylaws. And he could have the votes to get him through (Damone Smith, Bonnie Russell, Darius Pridgen, etc).

Well, let me tell you this: The Blogger has his
own set of bylaws. Should Fontana's ploy gain any sort of traction, he will hear an earful from the residents. We're not interested in having an outsider thrusted upon us because of a neighboring Council member's lust for power. When residents hear his name, nobody will recognize it. Fontana's been in city hall far too long if he thinks this will pass. He will do irreparable damage to his career should he put garbage politics ahead of the residents of the South District.

The Blog's Editorial Board will be endorsing someone for this seat shortly. And, no, it's not going to be someone from another neighborhood. Potential candidates would be wise to submit their resumes' to me very soon and make their case. As a political outsider with much at stake in the community, I'm watching this process very closely.

If you don't think I'm serious, I'd like to show you some footage from the last meeting of our Editorial Board...

  1. Thanks to our new Assemblyman Kearns the process is this way because of him. He had to shake things up after he lost to Conrad in the committee and then screwed the Elliccott District when he went against the neighborhood recommendation Pridgen to appoint Haynes. Kearns is responsible for orchestrating that whole effort and for any problems that come from this appointment.

    1. Jeff Conrad was anointed by the Committee members after Higgins gave the order to do so. They can't be trusted to do the right thing. You are correct. Kearns fought to change the process.

Appointing someone with no ties to the district is clearly an abuse of the process and the people won't stand for it. At least Haynes lived in the district. Personally, I'd rather see the seat stay vacant until the next election. We talk as if these people do anything, anyway. You could put a monkey in that position and it wouldn't affect anything.

  2. When will you realize that nobody cares what you recommend. You're obviously a very bitter soul due to being blacklisted by everyone in South Buffalo.

    1. If your statement is true, please tell my why both of the leading candidates had someone contact me yesterday. Obviously, they care about who I support. Many people read this blog daily. Fahey's people were not happy with me pointing out their daily fibs.

If either of the leading candidates fails to contact me directly, I'm going to take it as a personal insult, and they better not complain about how I respond on my blog. I have been blacklisted by most politicians (but not the average resident) and I consider that a badge of honor.

  3. Wow!!! It did not take long for Matt fisher to become a yes man. First thing he said was he was going to talk to Higgins and co. Fisher can't even think for himself on deciding to run or not. Kevin Overdorf would be an asset to the council. He is president of the south buffalo chamber of commerce which is always growing. Overdorf also coaches lax at Timon. He's a big strong kid who can stand up to City hall if need be. As for Whalen just another retread and for Bohen nice kid but he could not handle the political world.

  4. Overdorf is a Shroeder creation and lived in Hamburg his hole life. Matt Fisher did not say he needs to talk to Higgins, Whalen said that. Fisher said he is running regardless.

    1. Let's have a debate. Let the best man win. Fisher and Bohen would be great to work behind the scenes but they are not great public speakers. Overdorf deals with people everyday and also teaches a mentoring program at U B. although he grew up in hamburg he calls south buffalo his home and has lived here for years.

    2. At least Overdorf lived in NY state. didn't Fisher come up from Georgia to take a job from Kearns? it wont take long for Fisher to do whatever they tell him.

  6. You should post Overdorf's resume and then stop posting.

  7. Overdorf is a good kid but Eric Bohen is the most community involved candidate in the field and I have seen him speak at many events with big crowds and is perfectly fine. He is teacher, coach, and involved in everything.

  8. Guys, it is not a election, Kevin and Justin and friends can stop writing comments and focus on the upcoming interview. Unless the other eight Councilmembers read Mike's blog it is useless. Fisher, a yes man for Hggins? He worked for Mickey hard in the neighborhood for the last four years, worked hard for his election over Fahey and has Mickey's support to run. Knowing Matt, he would work with other elected officials if it is going to help South Buffalo. Good Luck!

You'd be surprised who reads this blog during the day while the rest of us are working.

  9. I think Matt Kevin and Eric would all be great the problem is that they will split the vote and let some jerk off slip in.

  10. Please don't let Conrad help you Eric. You are very bright and would do an excellent job as councilman. If Jeff Conrad is helping you out than I have to switch my vote to Overdorf. Kevin would also be a great councilman. This should be one for the ages.
