Whalen exits Council race

With Tim Whalen's withdrawal from the Council race, it leaves Mickey Kearns' handpicked candidate, Matt Fisher in a good position to receive the nomination. It's funny how Council President Rich Fontana said, "it probably will come down to who has the best interview", yet at least ten people in the neighborhood have already told me the Council has been directed to choose Fisher (before any of the interviews have even taken place). I'll bet this must make the other nine candidates reading this feel great...

Former Erie County Legislator Timothy Whalen announced Thursday evening that he is withdrawing his name from consideration for the vacant South District Common Council seat.

Whalen said, “I have been doing my due diligence and meeting with stakeholders, as well as current members of the Common Council, and I came to realize that the commitment of time and energies to this position and to this election endeavor might be way more than I had anticipated.”

That, and the fact he was told he didn't have enough votes to receive the nomination. This will mark the first time in a long time that two elected positions will be held by people not under Higgins' control. Could this be the beginning of the end for the "Ed Mahoney Democrats?" The last election showed they have no passion or organization whatsoever. They simply tried to buy the Assembly seat for Chris Fahey. The only people with signs for him were the twenty people in South Buffalo making over $70,000/yr. Higgins' latest dud claimed to have knocked on 11,000 doors, but apparently nobody was home.

By the way, the word is spreading around town: Kennedy's next. People are finally starting to realize he brings absolutely nothing to the table. Clearly a Higgins' Yes-man, the populace is searching for an independent voice to replace him. Stay tuned...

Whalen reconsiders, won’t seek Council seat
