The Rajneesh movement:1982

I actually remember when this went down around 1982. A group of people from India descended into rural Oregon. They all wore red and worshiped a man named Rajneesh. He had about 15 Rolls Royce. His brainwashed followers worked 12 hours per day constructing the compound.

When the group wanted to expand and form their own city, the locals became alarmed. Rajneesh had a crazy assistant named Sheela. She came up with a plan to win seats in the local county government. First, she bussed in homeless men from cities all over the country and offered them food and shelter in exchange for their votes. Second, she sent some people out to the nearby town of Antelope and sprayed the local salad bars with Salmonella. Her goal was to poison the locals on Election Day, so they would be too sick to cast their vote. She was a real nice lady.

This is still considered the largest act of germ warfare ever committed on American soil. Here's an interesting 9 minute documentary on the whole story. What can we learn from this? If thousands of people from India move next door to your town, stay away from the local Ponderosa...

And now you find yourself in '82
The disco hot spots hold no charm for you

You can concern yourself with bigger things

You catch a pearl and ride the dragon's wings...
