Buffalo’s Police Department is looking for qualified people to take the police exam on April 23.
The city, which plans to hire about 40 new police officers in the coming year, has launched a recruitment campaign. The deadline for registration is March 16.
To qualify, applicants must meet a number of requirements: 19 to 35 years old as of the exam date; resident of Erie, Niagara, Genesee, Wyoming, Cattaraugus or Chautauqua counties for at least 90 days before March 16; and having at least 60 college credit hours or two years of continuous military service.
As soon as the exam is completed, South Buffalo residents are encouraged to make their obligatory phone calls and send donations to their political contacts. Please remember to study hard, as you will have to score 20 points higher than the Keanes, Kanes, Whalens, Lewis, and Comerfords to even be considered for the job. 1984: Rajneesh Cult Attacks Local Salad Bar
THE DALLES, Ore. (AP) - In 1984, followers of the Indian guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh spiked salad bars at 10 restaurants in town with salmonella and sickened about 750 people.
The cult members had hoped to incapacitate so many voters that their own candidates in the county elections would win. The scheme failed, but the episode spread fear in The Dalles and drained the town's economy.
I just came back from the docks and the canaries over there were really chirping. Some people close to Deputy Mayor Byron Brown are telling me a major opponent of the proposed athletic complex/educational center by the Sorrento Cheese processing plant is none other than the McKinley Circle Lady.
Apparently, everyone's favorite flower person phoned Brown's office and told him there already were enough playing fields in South Buffalo and the education center would go unused. That we have a mayor who gives this person an ounce of credibility, is astonishing to me. She doesn't have a clue about the needs of South Buffalo's youth or anything else, for that matter. The only time she encounters the youth is when she is stealing their Christmas elves from the otherwise barren, publicly funded, circles on McKinley Parkway. A year ago, she wrote an article for the Metro Community News Blow off Your Steam section in which she alleged the new center was an attempt to close Cazenovia Park altogether. This had to be the most ridiculous thing I'd ever seen in that paper, (and I've seen many ridiculous things in it.) Nobody in their right mind is suggesting to do anything to Cazenovia Park, one of the most beautiful Olmsted Parks in the entire area.
One council-member told me he was very uncomfortable with the self proclaimed citizen of the year calling him and trying to influence his vote. This woman is becoming out of control, he told me. She's receiving a community service award from Bishop Timon for her paidjob of planting flowers. I don't know if she's aware that Bishop Timon is rumored to be one of the groups hoping to use the new gym for their home basketball games. She doesn't like Councilmember Kearns and will stop at nothing to prevent him from looking good. Some people have more hot air than a tornado in Kansas...

Blah Blah Blah. Don't these people have any real work to do? Kearns says the city needs a "designated coordinator" to oversee snow emergency operations. I'm not sure if he's aware of this, but that position used to be known as the Streets Commissioner. I'd like to nominate this guy for the position...
Philanthropist Robert Gioia tried to lesson the burden on taxpayers in an effort to privately fund the cultural organizations of Erie County. Barbara Miller-Williams made a fool out of herself by turning down the money and trying to label Gioia as the bad guy. Miller-Williams is the Buffalo police officer who doubles as a $43,000/year part time County Legislator. She even has the audacity to work overtime as a police officer, thus emphasizing the irrelevancy of her position as lawmaker (as well as the other 13 members of the do-nothing Legislature).
Gioia is now bypassing the entire Legislature with his plan. Who can blame him? They are an irrelevant body. They need to be eliminated, as they are an unnecessary layer of government. South Buffalo representative and MENSA member Tim Keane-Whalen didn't say anything during the hearing, but did play with his tie a few times...
People are leaving New York state in droves because of the lack decent jobs and ridiculously high taxes. Ironically,the only way you can get a decent job around here is if you're related to Florida resident Jim Keane. As a byproduct of the "Keane-drain", New York will be losing two of it's Congressmen in 2013. For Western New York, this means either Brian Higgins, Chris Lee, or Louise Slaughter will be out of a job. I guess it's true: every dark cloud does have a silver lining.
Some people are speculating Slaughter, who looks more like 80s wrestler Sergent Slaughter, might be persuaded to retire. Slaughter is 114 years old. She started her career as Betsy Ross' sewing partner and was sworn into Congress by Ben Franklin. She and Higgins can't stand each other, so I'm told. Higgins is a member of the entitled class and has never had to apply for a job in his life. I honestly don't know anything about Lee. It should be interesting to see how this thing plays out. After spending 40 years in the minority, the Democrats took control of the state senate two years ago. Since then, the party has exceeded its staff spending budget by at least $7 million, 2 On Your Side has confirmed.
During that same two year period, Republicans spent $2 million less than budgeted.
"It's outrageous," Republican Senator George Maziarz (Newfane) said. "It happened because they just hired every family and friend they could find and put them on the payroll."
This might be the best part of the story. Channel 2 tried to get in touch with outgoing (thank God) Senators Antoine Thompson and Bill Stachowski to get to the bottom of the story. Antoine declined comment (big shocker) and Stachowski had his staff members lie to the reporter and tell him he wasn't in the office (even though his car was in plain site!)Hey, they have to do something to justify the $7 million dollars they steal , I mean, earn. We attempted to contact the region's two Democratic State Senators, both of whom were defeated for re-election. A spokesman for Senator Antoine Thompson (Buffalo), who has the region's largest staff, declined to comment.
Senator William Stachowski (Lake View) did not return our phone call. When we visited his South Buffalo office, we found his car in the parking lot; however, his staff told us he was not in.
Good thing channel 2 thinks Kaisertown is part of South Buffalo. Anyway, this is why you cannot believe any of these knuckleheads when they tell you the state has no money. They always find the money to hire their relatives. $7 million dollars might be a drop in the bucket compared to the whole budget, but it is still $7 million. Keep your eyes on Tim "Hortons" Kennedy's staff. There's a reason Florida resident Jim Keane worked to get Kennedy elected.
