NY Senate's friends and family plan

Remember when the state leaders told you we were broke? Everything was on the table to be taxed, from your hunting licenses to license plates to soda. We all were going to have to tighten our belts. Well, apparently everything wasn't on the table. From WGRZ...

After spending 40 years in the minority, the Democrats took control of the state senate two years ago. Since then, the party has exceeded its staff spending budget by at least $7 million, 2 On Your Side has confirmed.

During that same two year period, Republicans spent $2 million less than budgeted.

"It's outrageous," Republican Senator George Maziarz (Newfane) said. "It happened because they just hired every family and friend they could find and put them on the payroll."

This might be the best part of the story. Channel 2 tried to get in touch with outgoing (thank God) Senators Antoine Thompson and Bill Stachowski to get to the bottom of the story. Antoine declined comment (big shocker) and Stachowski had his staff members lie to the reporter and tell him he wasn't in the office (even though his car was in plain site!)Hey, they have to do something to justify the $7 million dollars they steal , I mean, earn. Hiding in a closet is always the true sign of a leader. In fact, Winston Churchill was known to do so every once in awhile...

We attempted to contact the region's two Democratic State Senators, both of whom were defeated for re-election. A spokesman for Senator Antoine Thompson (Buffalo), who has the region's largest staff, declined to comment.

Senator William Stachowski (Lake View) did not return our phone call. When we visited his South Buffalo office, we found his car in the parking lot; however, his staff told us he was not in.

Good thing channel 2 thinks Kaisertown is part of South Buffalo. Anyway, this is why you cannot believe any of these knuckleheads when they tell you the state has no money. They always find the money to hire their relatives. $7 million dollars might be a drop in the bucket compared to the whole budget, but it is still $7 million. Keep your eyes on Tim "Hortons" Kennedy's staff. There's a reason Florida resident Jim Keane worked to get Kennedy elected. We'll be watching to see how many of his relatives end up on Horton's staff. The over/under is at 10...

Kaisertown and Lovejoy are sticking with Stack

We took our cameras and talked to residents in Kaisertown and Lovejoy about the upcoming race for State Senate in the 58th district. We stopped at Lucky's restaurant on Clinton St. and asked voters there who they were supporting. "I'm voting for Stachowski and I don't care what line he's on," said a man identifying himself only as Jack. "He has always taken care of this neighborhood and I hear he's hanging in there in the polls."

A man named Tony said, "I'm voting for Jim Kennedy. He seems to have what it takes..." Before he could finish his sentence, two other gentlemen reminded him that Kennedy supported Byron Brown and Antoine Thompson in recent elections. "He also took a cheap shot at Stachowski and cannot be trusted. If he wins, he'll fit right in in Albany. He's a bohunk," continued one of the men.

At the Wilson Farms store on East Lovejoy St., a man named Stan said he would be voting for Stachowski. "Stachowski has delivered for this neighborhood like no other politician. Mark Kennedy doesn't even know a single person down here and he's being backed by that fink, Steve Pigeon. He will forget about us as soon as he's elected. I'm sticking with Stack. He's the only elected official originally from our neighborhood. Kennedy might be a dyngus but he doesn't celebrate Dyngus Day." Another customer at the store named Betty said she was torn between Jack Quinn and Stachowski. "I kind of like both of them. Stachowski's been good for the neighborhood but Quinn is the only one with an actual five point plan to change Albany. I'm not even considering supporting that Larry Kennedy. He's Steve Pigeon's little lap dog." Whatever happens on Tuesday, it's apparent many people in the neighborhood are sticking with Stack and not too high on "Special" Ed Kennedy.

September Surprise

I keep telling you these political types have no shame. I received one of the funniest mailings I've ever gotten today. It's an ad for Bill Stachowski complete with a fake, good looking family. Maybe it's his son or daughter and his grandkids (I don't know), but it is obviously meant to trick the voters into forgetting he's a 30 year do nothing incumbent. Talk about desperation. Dan Quayle's son just did the same thing in New Mexico. He posed with his two nieces as if they were his own children. I should have put a good looking couple with two kids on the front of my mailings when I ran for the common council. Wait a minute. I didn't have any money for mailings. Will the real Stachowski please stand up? Who are these people? Stackman, this is low even by your standards. The bar has just been lowered...



Here is a picture of the actual Bill Stachowski. He looks just like the guy in the mailing, except he's old, bald, and heavy set. Other than that, he looks just like him...
