Anonymous letter sent to Grant

Never one to shy away from the use of the race card,  Betty "the Professor" Grant has contacted the local media with an anonymous letter sent to her signed "KKK"...

Monday night, Grant emailed us saying today at her office, she opened a letter that was postmarked October 3rd, threatening her and her family harm, if she didn't give up trying to win the election.
Grant says she will forward the letter, which she says was signed "the KKK,"to local authorities and the FBI.  She says she has no idea who sent it.

Local police, the F.B.I., and Galleria Mall Security Guards have all been notified in hopes of finding the cowardly letter writer.

F.B.I. criminal profiler Tom White says the suspect is most likely a black or white man or woman between the ages of 20 and 78. He or she is probably a loner, but may also be gregarious and outgoing. White thinks the letter writer may have experience in the military or law enforcement. For unknown reasons, White also believes the letter writer might be a fan of the TV show Alf. They've released this composite sketch of what the letter writer may look like and ask anyone with information to contact former channel 7 weather man Tom Jolls...

Duck! Here comes the race card

Nobody wanted to see Tim "Hortons" Kennedy lose more than I did. However, the absentee votes have been counted and his slim lead has grown a little wider. But, not so fast. When all else fails, there's always the race card! Supporters of Betty Jean "the Professor" Grant will be holding a rally outside the Board of Elections tomorrow to protest a white candidate receiving more votes than a black candidate. From the Buffalo News...

Grant also was bothered by the number of people who she said wanted to vote in the primary but weren't made aware they needed to be a registered Democrat.

Grant said she would attend a rally called for 5 p.m. Wednesday outside the Board of Elections, 134 W. Eagle St. A flyer being distributed said the balloting was "an attempt to steal yet another election by voter suppression and disenfranchisement."

Grant supporters didn't know they had to be registered Democrats to vote in a Democratic primary? Seriously? Whose job is it to inform them of that? I suppose it's now the government's job to do that also. A better question: Whose buried in Grant's tomb? There is no voter suppression at play here.

Efforts to turn this election into a racial matter are shameful, albeit predictable. The election's over. The numbers have been counted. While half of South Buffalo and Cheektowaga can't stand Tim Kennedy and one can argue that the election was bought and paid for by New York City interests, you can't say a racial conspiracy was at play here.

When Mickey "Study King" Kearns lost to Mayor Brown a few years back, nobody cried racism. When Tim Whalen's seat was removed from the County Legislature, South Buffalo residents didn't view is as an opportunity to protest. (In fact, a small parade was held to celebrate the event.) We were just thankful to have one less "representative" living off a public paycheck.

People are sick of the race card being played, whenever something doesn't go one's way. Give me a break.

Class of 73'

Hard to believe stuff like this still goes on in 2012. A Louisiana high school class from 1973 sent out invitations for their 40 year reunion. On the letter, there is an after party for "whites only"...

Graduates from the St. Martinville, La., Senior High School Class of 1973 decided that after nearly 40 years, they would stop holding segregated class reunions, but a letter announcing the change included an after party for "white graduates only."

On Sept. 21, a reception will be held at the school, followed by the homecoming football game, which the letter notes all graduates are welcome to attend.

After the game, "white graduates only" are invited to a classmate's home and are encouraged to bring a "food dish to share."

The scary part is the nonchalant way in which it is stated in the letter. It's almost as if the people throwing the party would be surprised that something like this would cause a stir.

Performance art?

Bizarre video...A man in New York City hangs out in Central Park, wears an Elmo costume, and makes foul mouthed, racist remarks in front of large crowds. Could you imagine being a six year old kid and hearing one of your favorite cartoon characters telling people to F-off? It's hilarious and unsettling at the same time.

Dude, put your costume in the closet and go get a job...

He took the bait...

Shredd and Reagan interviewed the South Buffalo resident with the outspoken views on race today. He said neighbors were coming up to him and thanking him for his comments to channel IV. He also said he has received some death threats.

I'm not afraid to touch on controversial topics. We've all heard people talk about the increased number of black people who have moved onto the side streets off of South Park Avenue and Seneca Streets. It has dominated many conversations on porches and at dinner tables. To pretend that it hasn't, is an outright fabrication. Although very politically incorrect, this man was just saying publicly what others have said privately.

I'm not an advocate of any kind of racism. We've all heard the stories about our Irish ancestors being greeted with signs that read "Irish need not apply" when they arrived in this country. It's something every Catholic school teacher in South Buffalo discussed at one point or another.

While this man's opinion might be ugly, it was how he felt. To me, hypocrites are worse than anyone. There are three hypocritical groups/people which need to be pointed out here...

1.)The white resident from the outer lying suburb who is "shocked" by the man's comments: Could you remind us all again why you fled to an all white area?

2.) Reverend Darius Pridgen: Ironically, the racist, blue collar South Buffalo man in question has more in common with the average black person than Pridgen does. He drives fancy cars and lives in an expensive condo on the waterfront. The only time Pridgen is black is when he's preaching from the alter or speaking in front of a TV camera.

3.)The South Buffalo/ 1st Ward racists who turned around and whored themselves to Byron Brown when he ran against a South Buffalo resident: We all know who they are. If you're going to be a racist, it's on you, but don't just do it when it's convenient for you. Practice what you preach. I don't dislike Brown because he's, well... brown. I dislike him because he's an empty suit. These people, who talk out of both sides of their mouths, are an embarrassment to the true racist, idiots everywhere. At least they're not hypocritical.

Attached is the full interview from Shredd and Reagan. No word yet on whether the man plans on tossing his white hood into the ring for City Council.
You can listen to him on Shredd and Ragan here.

Candid interview

You won't believe this interview. This guy is more outspoken than I am. Channel IV's Ed Dranch went down to the Old 1st Ward to speak with neighbors about some recent arsons. The FBI is exploring the possibility they were racially motivated. You may be shocked by what the man on the back of his pickup truck says (beginning at 1:30). Not shocked by what he says, but shocked by the fact that he says it in front of a news camera. Most people these days will give you the politically correct, carefully worded answer. Not this guy.

I don't agree with what he says, but you can't call him disingenuous. I'm going to go out on a limb and say he is probably not an Obama supporter. Call it a hunch...

Here's a clip from the last time I heard someone as outspoken on the issue of race...

Lovejoy incidents

The Buffalo News Editorial Board is at it again. The nameless, faceless cowards who endorse every machine-backed politician now feel they have the right to cast judgement on city neighborhoods...

Things should work differently in mature communities. It should be that if a hate group tries to spread its racist message, it would be met by a peaceful but determined group of protesters, many of them white, to let the racists know they aren't welcome there.

That doesn't seem to be happening now in Lovejoy, and that's one of the saddest aspects of the harassment being visited on the African-American family of Ann Cooper.

So, in other words, the people in Lovejoy aren't as "mature" as the editorial board members and their neighbors. First of all, I'd like to ask the members of the editorial board why they fled to all white towns like Getzville and Clarence in the first place? These people have no idea what it means to be poor, yet they have the right to tell the poor how to live? If they're so concerned about neighborhoods like Lovejoy and the Old 1st Ward, why don't they sell their suburban homes and move down there? I guess it's much easier to throw stones from Spaulding Lake without even knowing the whole story.

The only people who really know what is going on down in Lovejoy are the people involved and the police. People in Buffalo's poorer neighborhoods live next to people of color all the time. When things like this take place, the media is usually not getting the whole story. My neighborhood is multiracial these days. However, a scumbag is a scumbag, and they come in many different colors. We had a drug dealer recently evicted down the street. He happened to be white. I'm sure my white neighbors and the black people living next door to me were both happy to see this guy gone. If he had been black, would we have been racists to want to see him out of the neighborhood?

I don't know the real story going on in Lovejoy. From what I understand, it's a house with 14 people living in it. One Buffalo News reader close to the neighborhood described it as a "welfare motel." The teens in the house recently robbed both a pizza deliveryman and a Chinese delivery worker. The question I have is how many kids live there and by how many fathers? Are the fathers present in the house? Do the juveniles involved (both white and black) have criminal records? For the Buffalo News to tell the residents of Lovejoy they need to be more mature (without knowing any of the facts), is the ultimate in hypocrisy. Thank God nobody wastes their 75 cents on the nonsense they pass off as journalism anymore. Like I said, if the people on the editorial board are really concerned about Buffalo being one of the most segregated regions in the country, sell your suburban homes and move into a city neighborhood. These people have no idea what actually takes place on city streets on a daily basis.

Where's the outrage?

1st Ward arson

Our 1st annual Head Buried Beneath the Sand Award goes to Laura Kelly, Executive Director of the Old 1st Ward Community Center. Kelly had this to say in today's Buffalo News, regarding allegations that someone in the neighborhood burned down an unoccupied house because the owner (from the Republic of Congo) was black...

"It's just opposite to everything I know about my community," said Kelly, director of the Old First Ward Community Center. "It just doesn't seem like my neighborhood."

What neighborhood has she been working in the last several years? Kelly is either the most naive person on the planet or it's second biggest liar (nobody could ever replace Lou "Pinocchio" Petrucci.)

I will say this, however. The people I know down in the Old 1st Ward (I worked at the Community Center for six years) would not condone burning anybody's house down because of their skin color. Now, if the person was dealing drugs or causing problems in the neighborhood, it might be a different story. Unless it is the work of one very ignorant person, my sixth sense tells me there's more at play here. I just don't see a group of people conspiring to do something like this. I hope the FBI looks at all of the facts before jumping to any conclusions.

Fires fueled by hate?

In fact, we have some actual footage from Republic Street down in the Old 1st Ward, proving that everyone gets along down there...

Kenmore East basketball players suspended

Sophomore Tyra Batts, 15, said that as a black athlete, she was shocked when she first heard the N-word chant during the team's first game of the season Friday against Sweet Home. She discussed the incident at her home on Thursday in Tonawanda .<br>Photo by John Hickey/ Buffalo News
The entire Kenmore East High School girls basketball team has been suspended for using the N-word in their pregame cheer. This, despite the fact they have a black player (pictured above) on their team. From the Buffalo News...

Teammates would hold hands before their games, say a prayer together, then yell "One, two, three [N-word]!" before running out onto the court, according to offended students.

Talk about ignorance. I don't care if they're innocent high school kids. They should know better by that age. And where are the coaches? I don't want to hear that this is a private pep talk with no adults. This has been allegedly going on for years and you're telling me no adults were aware of it? The way girls talk? Please. (I did read from the comments that this was the new coach's first game at Kenmore East. So, I would tend to blame the former coaches more than her.) You have to know what's going on with your team. How could the players have thought this was acceptable?

In response to the incident at Kenmore East, Kenmore West has announced their new pregame cheer "One, two, three, honkies!"

Speaking of inappropriate racial slurs, check out this Wheel of Fortune clip I posted the other day. I can't believe this contestant thought the N-word would actually be put in one of the show's puzzles. The silent shock of the audience and the look on the contestant's face after realizing it is not the correct letter, is worth the 19 seconds it will take to watch it. How does one live this down?...

Unbelievable guess

Are you kidding me with this Wheel of Fortune clip? I thought I'd seen everything. It pretty much speaks for itself. Listen to the awkward silence in the studio when the confused contestant takes a shot in the dark at solving the puzzle. Don't think we'll be seeing this Ben Stiller lookalike on Jeopardy any time soon...

Racist ice cream

A Florida ice cream parlor had to change their mascot after people complained it resembled a Klu Klux Klan member. Now can we do something about that Burger King guy?...

The mascot of a Florida ice cream and sandwich shop has been retired after being mistaken as a KKK protester, according to the Ocala Star-Banner.

According to the report, the costume, which featured a white hood with colored sprinkles and a waffle cone pattern for the body, might have been driving customers away, the shop's owners said.

Chippewa St. racism

A Chippewa Street bar is accused of closing at 11PM because the crowd was mostly black...

The management of 4Play nightclub, 45 W. Chippewa St., told party promoter Devon Jones that more white people needed to come to the club by 11 p. m. or the mostly black crowd would be kicked out, Jones said.

This is the strangest part of the story...

Jones said the bar’s owner approached him at about 10:15 p. m., claiming there was a previous agreement that 50 percent of the bar’s patrons would be white, and the other 50 percent black. Jones said he had made no such arrangement.

How did that conversation go?

Owner:"Hey, This crowd don't look white to me. We had an agreement, didn't we?"

Jones:"Yes. The honkies will be here shortly. Don't worry."

Owner: "Well, they better be here by 11:00PM or we're shutting down."

Jones: "Some are still at the Sabres game and others are checking their stock portfolios. They'll be here."

How do you talk about the racial makeup of a group without getting into trouble? If a bunch of Korean people showed up to the bar at the last minute, would that have changed things?

You can't kick law abiding people out of a business because of their color. I have a feeling there are two sides to this story. We've heard what the promoter said. It will be interesting to see what the owners have to say...

Angry white men

Funny stuff: The mayor and the police chief in this small Ohio town want you to come down and enjoy their weekly music festival. Unless you wear Goth clothing, have piercings, or are from the city of Akron...

Cuyahoga Falls is all aflutter over a proposed 8:00 p.m. curfew for anyone under 18. Proponents say that the riverfront area has become a meeting ground for the dreaded undesirables. Loitering kids are hanging out under bridges, and that, friends, calls for drastic action.

Mayor Don Robart is particularly worried about a couple of things: goth kids and piercings. He also may or may not want you to get off his lawn and turn down your hippity-hop music.

Model employee

It looks like Niagara Falls Public Works employee James Curtis is in trouble with the law again. This time Curtis picked up a known prostitute while working for the city...

You might remember Curtis in 2008, was the city employee who wrote "whites only" on a water fountain at work.(They really need to find more work for this guy to do.) We actually found footage of this troubling incident...

Archie Bunker

Remember when people weren't afraid to talk about real issues? Racism is alive and well today, but God forbid we see it played out on television. They should bring back characters like Archie Bunker. His genius was using humor to show how ridiculous actual racists truly looked...

Juan Williams fired

Juan Williams was fired this week by NPR for comments he made on the Bill O'Reilly show. He said, " I'm not a bigot. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous."

You can always tell when someone's going to make a racist statement. They preface it by declaring they are not a racist. However, I think NPR overreacted in this case. He just said what people were thinking. I know if I'm in a line for a civil service exam and I see a Keane or a Comerford(This is hypothetical of course. We all know they go straight inside from their limousines), I get nervous and worried, too. Because at that moment, I know I'm going to have to score 30 points higher than them to even be considered for the job.

Orchard Park-Most racist city in America

Orchard Park's not a racist community. You're welcome to live there if you're black (as long as you play for the Buffalo Bills.) People, Inc. has taken the rare step of suing the town after the town blocked the agency from building senior apartments. The leaders of the town requested zip codes in an effort to keep people from Buffalo and Lackawanna out.

Sorry Orchard Park. We don't want to live in your shit town anyway. I hope you get sued and Al Sharpton comes here and pisses on your lawns. East Aurora and Holland are much nicer anyway. From the Buffalo News article:

"This request was intended to learn whether residents of Carnation had come from the more racially diverse cities of Lackawanna and Buffalo," the complaint states.
Town officials denied charges of discrimination last year, stating they were concerned about providing services, and concerned about the loss of industrial land where the project would be built.

Stop lying Orchard Park. These vague terms aren't going to let you squirm out of this one. Just come out and admit the truth. Can't we all just get along?

Always low prices, Sometimes racist

It doesn't take much for something to become a national story these days. Some idiot gets on the intercom system at WalMart and says, "all blacks please leave the store" and crackpots like me are putting it on their blogs all over the country...

The whole non-story reminds me of this scene from Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles...

Where's Reverend Sharpton Now?

Does anyone remember a few years ago when the media was coming after the four kids in the Babcock neighborhood for what was called a racially motivated crime? After looking into the facts, it was discovered that the person who was beaten was a drug dealer and was causing all sorts of problems in the neighborhood.

My favorite part of that story was when a busload of bleeding heart white people showed up in the neighborhood to conduct a protest without knowing any of the facts regarding the incident. Neighborhood residents came out and told them "we don't go to your town and tell you how to live. Don't come down here and tell us how to live". They were right.

This brings us back to the recent beating of a white teen on Genessee because he had a black girlfriend. It wasn't a robbery. His cell phone, CD player, and cash were not taken during the attack. If the situation were reversed, and several white kids beat up a black kid for having a white girlfriend, this would have immediately been labeled a hate crime and would have become a national story. Al Sharpton would be here. I hope the detectives get moving and make some arrests in this case.

Course of interracial couple's love is not smooth*
