Security breach

Why do you rob banks? "That's where they keep the money." bank robber Willie Sutton (although he denied making that statement in his autobiography.)

The geezer bandit might be taking a vacation to India. A bank there recently opened up a branch with no locks on the money. They view their God as the only security guard necessary. I hear they're thinking about starting a branch like this on Seneca Street in South Buffalo. That should go over well...

MUMBAI: The United Commercial (UCO) Bank has opened the country's first lockless branch in Maharashtra, even as the Centre has made hi-tech security mandatory for all nationalized and private sector banks.

"We took note of the general belief and faith of the people. Ever since the most revered temple came into existence several years ago, the village has not witnessed a single crime. In fact, all houses in the entire village have no doors. We took the risk and started the lockless bank a week ago," a senior bank official said.

Christmas mayhem

A masked gunman robs a bank. A customer follows him out of the bank and fires 4-6 shots at him with his gun. The whole thing is witnessed by a creepy looking man, who doubles as an Eastern Hills Mall's Santa Claus. No, this is not the script of an old Richard Pryor movie. It actually happened today out in Amherst.

How'd you know it was me?

A woman robbed an East side bank today. An alert teller somehow put a GPS tracking device inside one of the 100 dollar bills. The suspect seemed surprised when the police found her hiding inside a garbage tote next to her home, just a few blocks away. The ACLU has announced a rally for 12 noon on Wednesday outside of city hall, claiming the new GPS devices invade on the privacy of bank robbers...

BUFFALO, NY-Technology played a role in helping Buffalo Police nab a suspected bank robber Friday afternoon.

They say a woman, believed to be in her mid-20's, handed a teller at the Bank of America on East Delavan a demand note shortly after 1 PM.

The bag the teller handed over contained not only an undisclosed amount of cash, but a GPS tracking device as well.

The device helped police track down the suspect within minutes not far from the bank.

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown will be addressing the arrest at a late afternoon news conference in his City Hall office. Stay tuned to wgrz.com and Channel 2 news for the latest on this developing story.

Wow. This is hard to believe. More college graduates are defaulting on their student loans. This is shocking news! You take out $50,000 in loans to better yourself and then find out the only jobs available are $9/hr. telemarketing jobs. I hope everyone stops paying back their student loans and the money sucking banks are forced to close. Forget the lawn signs. Eden bank robber is no geezer bandit

A would be bank robber in the town of Eden changes his mind after a brief wardrobe malfunction. He forgot to put his surgical mask over his face to conceal his identity. He also received a cell phone call from an accomplice, probably telling him he entered the bank maskless. He's in big trouble now. Thanks to the surveillance cameras, all the police need to do is compare his picture to all known doctors in Western New York:

Star Wars freak robs bank dressed as Darth Vader

Move over Geezer Bandit. A man dressed as darth vader robbed a bank yesterday in Long Island before taking off on his bike. He left his light sabre at home in favor of a handgun. Check out the guy cowering on the floor. Apparently, he didn't get the hilarity of the situation...


Because of the costume, police have no description of the suspect, but they were able to get a good look at his getaway vehicle...

A Seneca Street M&T Bank branch was robbed Tuesday afternoon by a man who made off with a quantity of cash through the rear of the bank, according to Buffalo police reports.
A bank official told Buffalo police that the holdup occurred at about 1:25 p. m., when the man approached a teller and demanded “all the 100s and 50s with no bait or dye.”
“You have three seconds,” the robber said, “this isn’t a joke.”

The robber was reported to be a 5- foot-6, 140-pound white male in his 30s or 40s. He had a medium build and wore a black baseball cap, blue jeans and a maroon or red sweat shirt with white writing on it, according to reports. Neighbors Upset About HSBC Closing

I found the following article from today's Buffalo News to be interesting. An HSBC bank on Fillmore and Glenwood has decided to close. HSBC officials say it is simply a business decision. Some neighborhood residents claim the bank was so limited in it's hours and services that it was destined for failure.

Ironically, Larrone Williams, the activist leading a petition drive to reopen the bank, doesn't do his banking there. He banks somewhere else. HSBC officials say there are three other HSBC banks within a three mile radius of the former bank. They also point out that there is a Citizen's Bank, M & T Bank, and Bank of America within a couple of miles of the closed branch. It might be an inconvenience, especially for elderly customers. However, it is inconvenient for me to drive to Cheektowaga to find the nearest Arbys. They don't locate in my neighborhood because it would not be profitable for them. They're not a non profit or a charity. They make money selling low grade dog food to fat slobs like me.

Banks are businesses, too. If they were making money at the Fillmore/Glenwood location, they would not be closing it. They're probably "banking" that most of the Fillmore/Glenwood customers will stay with another HSBC bank. Like almost any other business these days, they are downsizing. Judson Price, 78, is quoted in the article as saying the neighborhood population has become sparse these days. He is a customer of the bank, but points to all the abandoned homes on nearby streets. I remember Price was shot by a neighborhood teenager years ago after he stood up to gang members. He also led the fight to bring a supermarket to the East Side (Tops). To me, he has credibility. The good news is that the University of Buffalo and HSBC appear to be trying to do something behind the scenes to utilize the location.
