Corruption is alive and well at the Water Authority

We keep hearing how broke Erie County is. Then, we find out the blowhard commisioner of the Water Authority, Frank Swiatek, created a $300,000 golden parachute for the executive director Robert Mendez(were he to be fired). What a joke. I read in the paper how board candidate John ODonnell was proud of his family's years of "public service". Public service? Is that what you call raping the taxpayers for five generations? How about public disservice? Go away, nerd. Watch Buffalo attorney John Elmore in this clip. The channel 2 reporter asks the candidates basic questions from the authority's website. Elmore refuses to be interviewed and tries the old trick of continually pressing the elevator button (in hopes that it will arrive quicker). The worst might be Swiatek who looks very confused when confronted with basic questions. Keep in mind, he's a current board member.Talk about corruption in WNY. Look at these quasi-government agencies. The Water Authority, Thruway Authority, Sewer Authority, etc.

Water Board Approves Rate Hike-Paladino Vows Lawsuit

The Buffalo Water Board approved their rate increase at a meeting in city hall on Wednesday. No surprise there. However, local developer Carl Paladino has vowed to sue the Board and has called for the City and State Comptrollers to conduct an audit of them. He's also called for independent forensic auditors. Watch how quickly the Water Board backs down now that they know the microscope is on them. They don't want the average resident to see who's on their bloated payroll and how much they are making. I have a feeling they won't get away with the proposed increase. It's just another effort to tax already overtaxed residents, support their huge salaries and payroll, and drive more homeowners out of Buffalo. Someone should show up at the next hearing and shoot water pistols at members of this board. Nice try losers. Next.

You'll be Paying a lot More for Your Water in Buffalo

You'll be paying more for your water if you live in the city of Buffalo. Water rates are expected to rise by 21%(that's not a misprint) over the next 2 1/2 years. Water Board Chairman Oluwole McFoy (you can call him Ollie)attributes the increase to an unusually wet summer which contributed to a decrease in water consumption (???). So if we have an unusually dry summer, does that mean our rates will go down by 21%? I wouldn't count on it.

In typical cowardly fashion, Byron Brown waited until after the election to announce what amounts to a tax increase. Thanks again to Brian Higgins and Status Quo Kennedy for supporting Brown over one of their next door neighbors. When asked to comment on the rate hike, Commissioner Jim Comerford said, "What the hell do I care? I live in East Aurora. I'm more concerned about our village being absolved."

People can waste their time and show up to complain tonight at city hall at 6:30 if you want to pay to park and risk getting mugged on the way in. Thank you in advance to the five brave citizens likely to show up. McFoy insists this rate hike has been proposed with the water customers "best interests" in mind. What? I,for one, am glad someone is finally looking out for us. Thanks Ollie!
