Growing up, everyone knew someone who had a friend whose brother witnessed the red dye. That would be the red dye that surrounded the person who urinated in the pool. Nobody ever actually witnessed it because it didn't (and doesn't) exist. In this short segment, pool workers talk about how often this mythical product comes up in their daily work lives. ID's for city pools are a good idea

One city official wants to make kids have an ID pass in order to use the outdoor pools this summer. I, for one, think this is a very good idea...

Thousands of people who cool off in 10 public outdoor pools each summer would have to show a city-issued identification card or another valid ID under a plan proposed by South Council Member Michael P. Kearns.

The new rule would prevent “bad actors” from heading to other city pools after they’re evicted from a facility, Kearns said, because the IDs could be confiscated.

Currently, there is no accountability. The kids have been known to start fights, steal from the locker rooms, and even assault life guards. To me, this is a no brainer. They should keep the $3/year fee in place, also. Let the kids know there is some value to using the pools. With this value, responsibility might follow.

I talked to some city recreation workers who told me they prayed for rain every day last summer, because some of the kids were so out of hand. Since many of their parents have no idea how to instill discipline, it is left to the rest of us. This is the unfortunate reality we are dealing with...
