Happy New Year

Some Elmwood Village residents found parking tickets on their cars on New Year's Day. The city has the right to ticket people for violating the rules. However, is there anyone out there naive enough to think it's anything but a money grab by the city?

"I'm not disputing the fact of what the rules are, or the city's right to enforce them," replied Tritto. "But I think there was an honest assumption on the part of people that the rules would not be enforced on a holiday. What I'm also saying is that if you want people to feel welcome in your city...then we want city hall to show some common respect to residents."

Kevin Helfer is a liar and a phony who should have stuck to landscaping.The city under the false pretense of public safety, uses the alternate parking as a major money grab. It's just another racket so they can steal more of our money and hire more of their relatives. If you move your car 15 minutes early, they ticket you. If you are 15 minutes late, they ticket you. The losers in those stupid trucks are like modern day tax collectors from Biblical times.

I think they should make a game out of it. Let them ticket everyone, but also let us throw eggs and tomatoes at the lowlife scum they send out to write the tickets. Next time the guy shows up on my street, I might get a bullhorn and make fun of him from my second story porch. If I wanted to live in a police state, I'd move to North Korea...

Florida cop pulls over another cop

It's not too often you see a cop pull over another cop and give them a ticket. This Florida officer would routinely see a Miami Police car zig zagging in and out of traffic on her patrol. This time, she claimed he was going 120 MPH. I'm glad she pulled him over, as he was unnecessarily putting other peoples' lives at risk. His reckless driving had nothing to do with the law...

Ridiculous

I just saw this story about Dawn Schafer, a Buffalo woman ticketed in West Seneca for having an air freshener hanging from her rear view mirror. This is absurd. If this is the only thing she's accused of, the West Seneca Court should send her a letter telling her the police officer made a mistake and not to bother showing up to court. I realize this law is on the books, but it is ridiculous and completely unnecessary. Isn't this the type of stuff the BTK killer Dennis Radar pulled when he worked as a Wichita, Kansas Code Enforcement officer?

This is not Egypt. We have no desire to live in a police state. This constitutes harassment in my opinion. This woman had somewhere to go and was needlessly pulled over and ticketed because someone obviously took himself way too seriously. Does this police officer realize the tough financial times most of us are living in? The next time he is complaining about his pay or benefits, he shouldn't expect any sympathy from motorists like the woman in this clip. This overzealous cop makes all level headed police officers look bad through his careless actions. If there's more to the story, then we'd like to hear it...

Letter to the editor-Ticketing cars at parks

While I don't think most law abiding citicens "rooted for Bucky Phillips, after he shot two police officers", I do agree that the state police ticketing taxpayers after they went to the closed parks is another example of arrogance on their part. Every one of these tickets should be thrown out and the person responsible for writing them should apologize to the motorists involved. Go out and look for criminals and stop harrassing taxpayers. It doesn't do much for your image.

Ticketing cars at parks offends the public more

The audacity and stupidity of New York State troopers ticketing cars parked in closed state parks blows my mind. The state supposedly can’t afford to pay a part-time park attendant $8 an hour. However, apparently it can afford to pay a trooper well over $50 an hour with benefits to rub salt in the wounds of taxpayers trying to utilize property that they, in theory, own.
Apparently, the state could save money by laying off troopers, considering they have time to harass law-abiding citizens versus fight real crime. Who would order this action? Law enforcement officers and officials who pondered why law-abiding citizens would root for Bucky Phillips, even after he shot two officers, need wonder no longer. They just answered their own question.
