From WIVB: Two Hamburg teens were rescued as they tried to cross Smokes Creek on their ATVs. The incident happened near McKinley Parkway and Willet Road. Lying in bed with a touch of the flu on a 10 degree day, just looking at this image makes me shiver.

Billy Squier narrowly misses killing school bus driver

Not funny: A hunter's stray bullet struck a school bus in Randolph, narrowly missing the driver and the schoolchildren.

Funny: The hunter's name was William Squire.

I can't believe the bullet traveled 500 yards. I think I'll be staying away from the Southern Tier until hunting season is over...

Accident in Hamburg

Crews removed heavy rocks today from the roundabout on South Park Avenue and Big Tree Road in Hamburg. A few weeks ago, a man lost his life when he crashed into one of the boulders and his truck caught on fire. You can't help but feel sorry for the victim's sister in this WIVB story. Roundabouts and circles look nice, but seem to result in a lot of accidents. People approach them too fast and they always seem too chaotic for me. I avoid them whenever possible, although some are much worse than others. The one downtown by city hall is the worst. It's a roundabout combined with unsynchronized red lights...

A body shop owner has come forward with the name of a suspect in the fatal hit and run of April Smith. The crash occurred on Broadway early this month. I'm glad they caught the person for the sake of the victim's family...

A Buffalo Police source tells 2 On Your Side that a local body shop worker tipped off officers of the damage to the vehicle that the suspect was driving.

Roadside memorials

I caught this story on WIVB. A family lost their daughter to a car accident on Delaware and Tupper. Now, their roadside memorial has been tampered with. I wasn't aware the Supreme Court was weighing in on the issue of roadside memorials. You see them everywhere. The families use them as a place to remember loved ones. While they do serve as a reminder to the rest of us to drive more carefully, I find them to be a bit of a driving distraction. It's a tough call...

What will happen next week? Will someone accidentally get shot out of a cannon? The obvious question is, would you rush to her assistance or laugh uncontrollably?...

Ida Valentine, 58, is suing the 99 Cents Only store where she slipped on a banana peel last April.

She said that she suffered a herniated disk and tissue damage, spent $9,000 on medical bills and is seeking an unspecified amount in damages.

"She fell and landed on her backside," said Courtney Mikolaj of the Quirk Law Firm in Ventura, California, which is representing her.

Buffalo police officer hurt in crash

I hope everyone's thoughts and prayers are with Gary Sengbusch and his family tonight. Sengbusch's car was blindsided by a drunk driver on Main St. the other night. He was driving home from his part time job as a security guard, when the other driver ran a red light. I've played soccer against Gary's brother Garrett for many years. He's a quality guy and we're all hoping for a full recovery. There was a woman passenger in the other car (her name has not been released). I hope her condition improves as well. She was listed in grave condition. Very sad story...

Interview with the husband of hit and run victim

An interesting interview from channel 2 with the husband of the hit and run victim from last week's accident on Seneca Street. He thinks her faith in God may have saved her life. She was coming from a church where she just finished saying her afternoon prayer. An optimist would agree with him. A pessimist might say she wouldn't have been hit at all if she went somewhere else on her side of the street. In any event, her husband seems like a good man...

Latest from accident on Seneca St.

After watching the accident on Seneca and Duerstein, it appears two people were in the wrong. The victim was crossing against a green light, which on Seneca Street, is a very unwise thing to do. The driver fled the scene and waited almost an hour before calling the police. How someone could strike another person with their vehicle, and not immediately pull over, is beyond me.

I understand the driver is an elderly woman, which does make me have more sympathy for her. However, I believe her first concern should have been for the victim. If it was you or one of your relatives struck by the car, how would you feel knowing the driver took off and waited an hour before calling the authorities? In any event, Seneca Street remains dangerous for drivers and pedestrians. People drive too fast and often pass you on the right. There are many pedestrians, and people need to be more observant while on this street. The victim should never have crossed against a green light, but the driver should have seen her walk right in front of her car.
