Earth scraper

Afraid of heights? A Mexican architect has designed an "earth scraper", a 65 floor inverted skyscraper. Instead of building towards the sky, they plan on building underground. Think of a subway building. They even plan on converting water from a nearby underground lake into energy for the structure. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the most astonishing. I'll take an office on the -65th floor as the blog's new official headquarters. There's a metaphor in there somewhere...

Undocumented emigrants


Undocumented Mexican immigrants are sneaking across the border in record numbers to find jobs. Only, it's not what you think. They're heading south back to Mexico, where the unemployment rate is lower...

There are fewer undocumented immigrants in California – and the Sacramento region – because many are now finding the American dream south of the border.

"It's now easier to buy homes on credit, find a job and access higher education in Mexico," Sacramento's Mexican consul general, Carlos González Gutiérrez, said Wednesday. "We have become a middle-class country."

Mexico's unemployment rate is now 4.9 percent, compared with 9.4 percent joblessness in the United States.

Pretty soon, Americans are going to be packing themselves like sardines in trucks to sneak into Mexico...

International update: Mexico


It's amazing the things that pass for trends in some places. In this Northeastern Mexican town, girls won't look twice at a guy unless he's wearing these clown-like boots. You have to wear them or people might think you look stupid. That's if you are not wearing them. Bizarre.
