Rising to the occasion

 
17 years after being run over by a car, a San Diego teenager fulfills a promise he made to himself and walks across the stage at his high school graduation. Patrick "Don't call me Allen" Ivison underwent six hours of physical therapy every day for the last three years to make it happen...


After his name was announced, Ivison – with the help of his trainer and custom walker – stood up and walked.
As he walked across the stage to his awaiting diploma, the crowd rose to their feet and encouraged him every step of the way. Ivison's service dog followed closely behind and received an award shortly after.

What a terrific story. And I think it's great that they honored his dog with an award, too. I'm sure he would have went home feeling slighted otherwise.

Prom Dress Drive

This is a nice story from WKBW. County Legislator Lynn Dixon is accepting donations of used prom dresses for high school girls that might not be able to afford them...

BUFFALO, NY ( WKBW ) Prom season is just around the corner, and that means a night of glitz and glamor for high school girls in Western New York.

However there are some girls who can not afford all that goes with the prom, and need some help picking up a dress.

From what I understand, they have even found someone to help clean the dresses for free, also. Please help spread the word. I'm sure most people know someone that has an old dress they can donate. Just think about how happy you will make some local girl. Hopefully, their prom experience will turn out better than the one in this clip: "They're all going to laugh at you, Carrie." Well, guess who had the last laugh? Carrie's mom was a pretty easygoing, laid back parent...

What is that?

Wait a minute! Wrong slide. Don't you hate when this happens? A representative from a blood bank was doing a slide presentation in front of the senior class at a Pittsburgh area high school on Friday when gay pornography from his flash drive accidentally found it's way onto the screen-Oops...

"It was hardcore male pornography that was put up on the screen when the flash drive was put in. They tell me it lasted about 30 seconds, which is a long time," said attorney Peter J. Payne, who has been hired by parents of several students who attended the presentation. Payne said he will be pursuing some form of civil action against Central Blood Bank.

Civil action? Give me a break! It was a Friday slide show presentation. Half the students were probably asleep.There's no need for the courts to become involved. Somebody should throw this attorney into one of the Three Rivers...
