State workers were furloughed losing 20% of their pay today. Governor Paterson and Sam Hoyt won't lose a dime of their pay. How about sharing in the pain? President Obama's visit could make national news with protests planned by Buffalo police and fire, Tea Party activists, and now furloughed state workers. I hear the Chinese guys that give out free samples of chicken at the local food courts are even contemplating a protest...

Paterson gives state employee unpaid day off
Governor Paterson's latest idea to get out of the budget mess is furloughs. Instead of working 5 days a week, New York state workers will only work 4. The catch is they will only be paid for 4. This isn't sitting well with New York's unions, and understandably so. This amounts to a 20% pay cut for state employees. When you consider how wasteful NY state government is, this is a slap in the face to real workers. I think people will finally start paying attention to other area where government could cut costs (but hasn't). Remember two years ago, when Sam Hoyt and others were calling for an increase in salary on their $80,000/year part time jobs?
