Letters to the Editor: West Seneca

 
I agree completely with this letter writer from West Seneca. I find it very annoying when local leaders try to make themselves look good by introducing irrelevant "fluff" legislation. A perfect example of this is West Seneca Supervisor Sheila Meegan. The former Seneca Mall site has been sitting vacant for 25 years and she's more concerned about the number of cats people have in their household. What would this woman do if she ever had to go out and find a real job?...

West Seneca should focus on real issues

As a West Seneca resident, I concur completely with the writer to this column about the supposed feral cat problem we are experiencing in our town. I am also a responsible owner to multiple indoor cats and have never witnessed hordes of strays on anyone’s property.

I must take umbrage with Town Supervisor Sheila Meegan for making this her platform concern at this time. Whether isolated or exaggerated, I am astounded by this displaced focus on a non-issue.

In lieu of trying to abate the cat population, I have a few proposals. Tend to the high unsightly weeds growing out of the sidewalks, paint the rusty guardrails along every bridge, keep vacant lots mowed, lure businesses to occupy vacated stores and gas stations, and please do something with the old Seneca Mall site. All of these are an embarrassing eyesore!

Cat-man rearrested

The man who tried to cook his cat was arrested this week after fleeing to Maryland. Gary Korkuc has been brought back to Western New York to face felony animal cruelty charges. A local family has since adopted the cat and said it tasted great on Thanksgiving...

Cat man fails to show up in court

The cat cooker missed his court appearance today. Now, the judge has issued a warrant for his arrest. A spokesman for his defense said he was having a late lunch at Petsmart and simply lost track of time. Check out the mug shot in this clip...

Here kitty

This is one of those stories you read about in the paper and know will end up on this site. A Buffalo man was marinating his cat in the trunk of his car in preparation for dinner...

When Ferry-Fillmore District officers pulled over a car driven by Gary L. Korkuc on Sunday night during a traffic stop, they said they heard a cat crying from inside the trunk and investigated.
What they found has left animal lovers at the SPCA Serving Erie County in shock.
The cat, according to police, was in a cage “marinating” in a mixture of crushed red peppers, chili pepper, salt and oil.

This is sad. The man obviously does not have all of his faculties. But, on a positive note, he has been offered employment at the China King restaurant in Hamburg immediately upon his release.

Why I Prefer Dogs Over Cats

If you're on your deathbed at the Steere House nursing home, the last thing you want to see is Oscar the cat. Oscar stays away from people until he senses their impending death and then snuggles with them. When he starts spending time with patients, the staff call their families to tell them their loved ones don't have much time left on this earth.

Unfortunately, Oscar snuggled up to a 90 year old Alzheimers patient yesterday. The patient said "I don't think so" and picked up the annoying cat by its tail and threw him out the window onto a freeway. So much for bedside manners. OK, I made that last part up...
