Tim Horton's update

Tim Horton's junkies in Western New York can breathe a sigh of relief. The restaurant chain has no plans to close in our area. I spoke to one of our consultants in Syracuse, Sarah Velasquez, and she gave me this story. See, we're like the Huffington Post. We have friends in high places...

The 36 closed locations make up small fraction of the Ontario-based restaurant's 600-plus U.S. eateries. Tim Hortons' first American venue opened near Buffalo in 1984. Since then, shops have opened in 12 states. In 2008, Tim Hortons expanded to Central New York, and new venues continue to open throughout the region.

"The closings are designed to allow us to focus and invest in our growing markets like Syracuse," said Jon Maurer, regional marketing manager for Tim Hortons. He added that within the last month, a Tim Hortons restaurant opened at 7th North Street and Buckley Road, and a new Onondaga Boulevard venue is scheduled to open in early December.

Everything is relative

Remember when Krispy Kreme Donuts opened up on Niagara Falls Boulevard and they had to call traffic control to deal with the long line of cars? Remember two years later when they closed due to poor sales? Apparently Tim Hortons is not as popular in other parts of the country as it is here. In Buffalo, some people would rather die in the morning than go without their daily fix of Tim Hortons coffee. I've even heard several people suggest they put some kind of addictive drug in the coffee. I guess not. Dozens of Tim Hortons in Providence, Rhode Island and Hartford, Connecticut went out of business today...
