Interesting poster

I thought this was an interesting poster from Alex Velasquez. You military people might appreciate it and I think others will also find it interesting. It lists each Presidential candidate's top 3 financial contributors. Ron Paul's are the US Army, Air Force, and Navy respectively. No Goldman Sachs here. I've liked Paul ever since the mainstream media began portraying him as crazy. Whether you agree with him or not, he's certainly not crazy...

Ron Paul: Constitutionalist or crackpot?

“Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution. In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Dr. Paul is the ‘one exception to the Gang of 535’ on Capitol Hill.”

Looks do matter when it comes to Presidential politics. The reason John McCain had no chance in the last election was because he looked like a guy who had spent five years as a POW in North Vietnam. Like Dr. Emmett Brown said in Back To The Future after finding out Ronald Reagan was the President in 1985, "No wonder your President has to be an actor. He has to look good on television."

Ron Paul missed his window of opportunity. He's 76 years old now. The country is finally finding out about him, but I'm afraid it's too late. I admit, I had no idea who he was four years ago. The only thing I knew about him was he had a lot of crackpots following him and the mainstream media wasn't interested in covering him. For those reasons, I liked him. However, I still must admit that I don't always get him.

His nickname in Congress is "Dr. No" because he votes against most bills. He even voted against giving the Congressional Medal of Honor to Rosa Parks and Mother Theresa. Here's what he had to say after voting against giving aid to the victims of Hurricane Katrina...

The congressman has also opposed domestic aid, having voted against funding for victims of Hurricane Katrina. He asked at the time: “Is bailing out people that chose to live on the coastline a proper function of the federal government? Why do people in Arizona have to be robbed in order to support the people of the coast?”

Paul is considered the most conservative member of Congress, yet many of his followers seem to lean towards the left. For some reason, this "old crank" has an army of young supporters. He uses the internet to fund raise better than any other candidate.

I like the fact Paul is outspoken (one time, referring to the IRS as the Gestapo) and has called for the abolition of many government departments. However, I think his time has passed. Whether you agree with his ideas or not, at least he votes according to his own principles. Unlike the rest of these guys, who base their decisions on whatever the poll numbers say. It will be interesting to see how he does in South Carolina. I'd be interested to hear others' opinions of Paul.
