East Aurora, NY (WBEN) -- East Aurora Police have arrested two people, for allegedly stealing two of former Bills' quarterback Jim Kelly's trophy rings.
Several thousand dollars worth of items were stolen from Kelly's home in August, 2009 -- including his 2002 Hall of Fame ring, and his University of Miami Ring of Honor.
Kevin Sapp, 36, formerly of South Buffalo, and 34-year-old Eric Schmidt of West Seneca are charged with third-degree grand larceny and possession of stolen property.

I'm cool with Kelly buying the team as long as local guys like Mark Hammister or the annoying chicken wing guy are not involved. Remember when Tom Golisano wanted to buy the Sabres? The politicians said thanks, but we're going to go with the Hamster. The first thing he did was ask the taxpayers to buy the team for him. I think Kelly should get Billy Fucillo involved. Seriously, I wish the fans could be part owners (like in Green Bay). They deserve it but I don't think the NFL would ever allow that again. It would go against their corporate scumbag image.
Channel 2 does a good interview with Jim Kelly and his wife Jill. One quote I always remember is when Kelly said his son was by far the toughest in the family. He was right and Kelly, Sr. with his faults, was a very tough guy himself.
He brought a lot of national attention to the city (along with Thurman Thomas and Bruce Smith) in the 90s and gave us some great games. It's funny how Kelly is still very much a part of Buffalo when he initially refused to come here. Everyone remembers the comeback game against the Dolphins at Miami when the team was just starting to become good. We haven't had a quarterback like him since. Now the Kelly's are talking about more serious things, and how their son probably saved their marriage...
Regular readers of the Buffalo News Sports section are used to articles in which Bucky Gleason shamelessly fawns over local professional athletes. His hockey column might as well be known as a shrine to Patrick Kane. I was not surprised to see Keith McShea mention that he expected Jim Kelly's nephew to be the next Ron Jaworski a week ago. Kelly's nephew Chad is the new quarterback at St. Joes. I hope the kid has a good high school career. He should not be judged by one game. But I have to admit, I laughed today when I read this in the recap of the St. Joes-Aquinas game played last night...

Here's a thought: Why don't you wait until after you see him play one down before you put him in the WNY sports Hall of Fame?
***(Update: I just wanted to add, the younger Kelly ended up having a great season at St. Joes in 2010. He impressed everyone with his running ability as well as his throwing ability. He had a rough first game, but bounced back nicely. It must be tough being the nephew of a Buffalo Bills legend, but he handles it well.)
One of the things I miss about my old job is talking to the clients about things. One of my old clients, Scott, was a huge sports fan. Every winter, we would talk about hockey. Every fall, we would talk football. He often said he hated the Bills but always seemed to bring them up. We had an ongoing debate for years regarding Jim Kelly's first game as a Bill against the New York Jets.
This was the game where the referee (Ben Dright) tried to make a call in which Kelly and a New York Jet Defensive Lineman got into a fight. Bills fans were probably shocked to see their quarterback fighting with a lineman. Dright called a 15 yard penalty against the Jet for "giving Kelly the business".
Scott swore for years that it was Mark Gastineau, then changed it to Joe Klecko. I told Scott I was pretty sure it was #93 Marty Lyons. Scott finally decided to end the debate when Kelly had an autograph session recently at the Boulevard Mall for Hunter's Hope. He showed up for the session with all his Miami Dolphins gear on to ask Kelly himself. I didn't expect him to call me while he was at the table talking to Kelly. This is the actual message he left me that day...
