Chavez's congressional allies are considering extending the "Social Responsibility Law" for broadcast media to the Internet, banning messages that "disrespect public authorities," "incite or promote hatred" or crimes, or are aimed at creating "anxiety" in the population.
I think this is a great policy on his part. If there's one thing that bothers me, it's when people who use the internet to make fun of public officials. His policy is straight out of the Kane's and Keane's playbook. Try and keep the masses as uninformed as possible, while maximizing your own power. It won't work for Chavez, however. The people of Venezuela are less tolerant than the people of Western New York on such matters.
