Finally, some good news for a change. Yesterday, we mentioned that the Caz Coffee Cafe would be closing up shop. Later in the day, we received a comment from M. Colpoys stating that plans are already in the works for the coffee shop/eatery to be taken over by the folks at the Dog Ears Bookstore. The bookstore is actually a non-profit entity.


The money raised there will continue to go to various causes in the community. The thing I've always liked about the bookstore is that it is accessible to everyone. The staff I've encountered there have always been friendly and knowledgeable. If you're a frequenter of the coffee shop or bookstore, now's your chance to tell the owners what you are looking for as a customer. Some people have mentioned topless waitresses. It's just one more idea being tossed out there. Seriously, I think it's one of the bright spots in the community and I'm happy the good work over there will be continuing.

What's funnier? A man who writes a book claiming to describe hell and who is going there, or those who read the book and say, "you got it all wrong"?

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — What does hell mean to you? Is it an endless nightmare for sinners and unsaved souls, as mainstream Christianity has taught for centuries? Or is hell here on Earth, in the distractions, addictions and emptiness of daily life?

Those ideas are receiving fresh scrutiny from some believers after a prominent evangelical pastor questioned the traditional idea of hell in his new book, "Love Wins."

Even before Rob Bell's book was published this month, religious leaders and their followers were branding it heresy, hailing it as a breakthrough or landing somewhere in the middle. Thousands have weighed in on Twitter, Facebook, blogs or outside their places of worship.

Bell "better go back and read his Bible again! He's all messed up!" wrote Ruth Ward of New Albany, Ind., on Facebook. "Satan is having a field day."

Nickel and Dimed

A family has pulled their child out of a Bedford, New Hampshire high school after the book Nickel and Dimed was on the list of required reading. The book is about the difficulties of living on minimum wage in America. In it, Jesus Christ is described as a "wine-guzzling vagrant and precocious socialist." What's wrong with that? Someone called me that the other day.

The school offered the students an alternative to the book if they were offended. Apparently, that wasn't enough for Ozzie and Harriet in this clip. They pulled their kids out of the school. Here's a shocker: They are now being home-schooled. Click on the link to watch the video.
