Catholic Lawyer to Cuomo: "no Communion for you!"

It's always funny when some ambitious Catholic zealot tries to deny a politician communion. I'm no fan of Andrew Cuomo. I sold several dozen t-shirts across the state this past summer urging residents not to let their friends support the son of Mario. However, to deny him communion because he lives with his girlfriend?...

In an email interview with CNS NEWS.com Monday, Dr. Edward Peters argued the Roman Catholic governor should refrain from receiving communion, and he should be denied the sacrament, given that he lives with his girlfriend, Food Network hostess, Sandra Lee.

Dr. Peters cites canon 915 from the Church’s Code of Canon Law, which says people “who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin, are not to be admitted to holy communion,” and contends that Cuomo’s living with Lee, despite not being married, meets the requirements of this law.

Please. Dr. Peters needs to go back and read the Bible. Jesus Christ hung out with a whole bunch of people who wouldn't be able to receive communion today by his standards. I specifically remember one verse that said "let he amongst us who is without sin cast the first stone" at the woman accused of adultery. I think the Catholic Church should pay closer attention to some of the priests distributing communion and less on those receiving it. Congratulations, Dr. Peters. You achieved your goal of getting your name in the press. Now let little Andrew pretend to be a Catholic again...
