I just wanted to take the time to mention fellow South Buffalonian Sean Crowley's new blog on the status of public education in Buffalo. I know many teachers read my blog and would probably be interested. (On a side note, I'd like to give a shout out to the Bennett High School Godfather.)


For the record, I'm lazy and don't really do any research. People are contacting me all the time to do investigative journalism, to which I remind them my posts usually consist of about 25 words and some goofy pictures.

Trailer park pervert

A Lockport woman woke up Saturday morning to a half naked stranger caressing her head. What can I say? I was in the neighborhood...


Troopers say the victim woke up around 3:40 a.m. in her home in Woodlands Trailer Park off Old Beattie Road to find the partially disrobed male on her bed, caressing her head. When she woke and confronted him, he fled by climbing out the laundry room window.

State Police responded and investigated, arresting trailer park resident Drew Taylor. The 27-year-old has been charged with one count of second degree burglary.

I'm surprised they are only charging him with burglary. This seems like a more serious crime to me. He's half naked and touching her. Also, they say it's not the first time he has done this type of thing...

Old time hockey

Ironically, most problems in youth sporting events seem to take place during the traditional post-game handshake. Here, a Canadian youth hockey coach is seen tripping a 13 year old player from the opposing team.


The coach went too far, but the little brat had given him the middle finger after scoring a goal. In any event, I think the kid broke his wrist during the fall. Of course, now the crazy mom is out for blood (or more likely, money) and dad is nowhere in sight. Damn video cameras are everywhere these days...

Parking lowlife

Attached is the spineless coward ticketing people at their kids' sporting events. He's the guy who will ticket you if you switch sides 10 minutes early or you don't switch 10 minutes too late.


It doesn't take a lot of guts to hit your neighbors up for $30 using loopholes. This man needs a severe egging.

 If someone is blocking a fire hydrant or parking in a handicapped parking spot, give them a ticket. But to go up and down the streets at the exact minutes the alternate parking changes, is a gutless act. We all know he is simply trying to impress his boss, career blowhard Kevin Helfer. Remember, BTK was a "compliance officer" and we all know how he turned out...

Parking fiasco on Weyand Street

Parking enforcement director Kevin Helfer ought to be ashamed of himself. His storm troopers are giving tickets out on alternate parking days without giving any legitimate grace period. The fact that the city even has these rules in the summer is a joke. It's an outright fleecing of the middle class residents.


The latest example here is over on Weyand Street. Did you ever notice they never enforce these rules in the poorer neighborhoods? The parking cops are cowards and are afraid they might get attacked. I'd like to see eggs or water balloons thrown at these lowlifes. Someone on Weyand Street please send me the name of the officer giving out tickets at 6:05. I'd like to give him some much needed recognition...

Another sign you've traveled too far south. When you arrive in Eastern Kentucky and find a guy growing marijuana in his front yard...


Investigators say they confiscated nearly 100 marijuana plants growing in a southern Kentucky man's front yard.


Knox County Sheriff's Deputies say when they confronted James Cox, 42, at his Flatlick home, he admitted the pot was his. Deputies say Cox admitted to having more plants inside his home.

Dixon bids farewell to Buffalo schools

 
Interviewed at her home, outgoing Superintendent Amber Dixon said she is not bitter at not being selected to lead the schools. The dartboard in her basement with the likeness of School Board President Lou "Pinnochio" Petrucci would make one think otherwise...


“Things were broken, and I got to fix them. They may not be sparkling, but I got to fix them,” she said. “But the reality is this board has decided the job I did for [nine] months wasn’t adequate.”

Dixon went on to say she hopes to work in the private sector as an aerobics instructor or in her dream job, stocking shelves at the Dollar General. Channel 4's Ed Drantch caught up with Dixon and asked her her feelings on the Blogger. She had this to say...

St. Ambrose-Let it Be

In times of trouble, you would hope the people in charge would work with those greatly affected to come up with solutions. Unfortunately, from what I'm hearing, this has not been the case at St. Ambrose.


From what I'm told, a parents group has asked for the names of the 27 Catholic School Board members and have been denied this information from Father Judge. They also requested an extension to August 1st, in an effort to recruit more students. Again, this request was denied. I have never met Father Judge, but I'm sure he is taking orders from a higher force. (No. Not HIM. Probably someone downtown.)


In any event, WGRZ did this story on an effort by parents to keep the school from closing...

Someone could do a whole blog about strange things that happen every day at WalMarts across the country. Looks like someone got superglued to a public toilet seat-again. This time in Kentucky. I remember the same thing happening a year ago at a different store. I like the WalMart in Hamburg but some of the others are home to the scum of the earth. I seriously wonder where they find some of these people...

South District Council update

 


I'm hoping the three non-entitled candidates for South District Council can come together and work something out. A three or four person race will heavily favor the anointed, machine backed Byron Brown yes-man, Chris Scanlon. 


I like Paddy Burke. I think he's a well intentioned intelligent guy, looking to make a difference. He represents the many young, educated folks forced to flee WNY in order to find job. However, I believe A.J. Verel presents the best chance at defeating corruption. Verel is a sharp guy. He is very media savvy and has been relentlessly going door to door in the district. He also has extensive knowledge of operating small business. He had a rough past, but has made a serious effort to better himself. I'm not saying the other two candidates have not been campaigning hard, however, I've had four people tell me Verel has come to their door (and they were impressed by him).


When I ran in 2001, there was a 3rd candidate who proved to be a spoiler. (The numbers would show that we beat him by a 3:1 margin). At the beginning of the summer, he was convinced he would defeat myself and the incumbent hack Mary Martino. Everyone and their brother tried to convince him he was helping the crazy lady, but he would not listen. He was even given the nickname Superman by his neighbors at the time. 

I have no personal stake in this race. As I said, I have nothing against Burke or Kevin Lafferty. They have every right to run, should they choose to. However, I honestly think the only way to defeat status quo corruption, and that's exactly what was given to the residents, is in a one on one race.

How sweet. 3 of the 4 Rochester pisspots have apologized to the school bus aide. The only thing they are sorry about is the fact they were caught. If I were her, I'd tell them to go piss up a rope. If you believe in their sincerity, I'd like to sell you some swamp land in Florida.


Meanwhile, donations continue to pour in to fund the bus aide's dream vacation. Karen Klein is looking at many places, but is leaning towards two nights at  Buffalo's downtown Casino, where a constant suicide watch awaits anyone walking through the front door...

People have a hard time understanding this next concept, which is probably why it took so long to come about... 

Inspired by a lazy friend who didn't want to shower, a South African college student has won international praise for inventing a "waterless" shower called Drybath. In other words, in 2012, we now have the ability to cleanse ourselves without getting wet.  Although most people in WNY, with the exception of certain sections of Riverside, have running water. There are many parts of the world where it is still considered a luxury...


He came up with the idea as a teenager in his poor rural home in the winter when a friend of his said bathing was too much of a bother, made all the worse by a lack of hot water.

"He was lazy and he happened to say, 'why doesn't somebody invent something that you can just put on your skin and you don't have to bathe'," said Ludwick Marishane.

Do not support raises for state lawmakers

Talk about a joke. I warned you about Andrew Cuomo. He is working behind the scenes to secure large raises for our part time state lawmakers. At a time when regular people are struggling to meet their bills, Cuomo wants to raise their pay from $79,000/yr to over $100,000. This would make New York lawmakers the highest paid in the country. This, at a time when young people are leaving in droves because of the incompetence and poor leadership of these very same buffoons. Talk about pathetic.


My question: Where are Tim "Hortons" Kennedy and Mickey Kearns? They both campaigned on a pledge to reform Albany. Neither of these guys knows anything about reform. If the current lawmakers are unhappy with their pay, they should take their underwhelming talents to the private sector. 


I love how some of the veteran lawmakers say, "we haven't had a raise in over 12 years" as if it's taken for granted that their seats are theirs for life. Ridiculous quotes like this coming out of Albany demonstrate a need for term limits. I could pick up random people at the bus stop that could do what Kennedy and Kearns do for a living: follow the advice of party leaders/special interest groups. 


This pay raise proposal is very underhanded. I think it's time for Kearns to call for another one of his pointless studies...

Everyone's talking about the video of the Rochester bus aide who was verbally harassed by four spoiled brats.
People are understandably outraged at the situation. Forget apologies. Forget sensitivity training and all the other feel good BS.


This presents a great opportunity for Western New York to stand up against this type of behavior. I'll leave it up to the authorities to do that. However, the punishment should be swift enough to get the rest of the country talking. It should be severe enough to make people question whether it is too much. What happened here was nothing short of an assault. Thank God for the video. Had it not been taped and the woman hit one of the precious little snowflakes, their parents would be suing her and she would probably have been fired. The community is rightly outraged and expecting some serious consequences for this criminal behavior. These little scumbags and their parents should have some serious comeuppance coming their way...

A Texas 3rd grader is forced to take a bath by a school nurse and a counselor, after they noticed he smelled bad. The parents don't look that dirty, although the mom could stand to lose a few pounds.


Of course, now they're suing. The school should have called home, if they thought there was a problem.


Is it too late to go back and sue the nuns that taught some of us? Those crazy broads broke at least one social norm every day before 9AM. And how could you sue them? After a warm personal and political relationship that once featured Higgins' endorsement of Brown's mayoral candidacy from the front porch of his home, the two find themselves sharply divided on key points.


Remember the fliers going around with Higgins walking side by side with Brown, while Tim Kennedy grabbed the mayor's balls? These two should be ashamed of themselves. Remember when I tell you. They care only about a very select group in the neighborhood: like-minded, inbred,pea brained sycophants. 

I feel bad for Higgins' and Kennedy's families. I do know several people from both of their families who are wonderful people. It's not their fault these two decided to sacrifice their integrity. Higgins has a reputation for strange behavior in Washington and Albany. Kennedy? He's just plain ass stupid. I'd tell him that right to his face, too. The only people dumber than Tim Kennedy are the people who alow his signs to be placed on their front lawns.

In a move that can only be described as classless, School Board President Lou Petrucci informed interim School Superintendent Amber Dixon that she would not be getting the permanent nod, via text message. From Mary Pasciak's blog...


Moments before the board emerged back into public session to unveil its decision to hire Pamela Brown, board President Lou Petrucci let Amber Dixon know what the board had decided.

"It's going to be Brown," he texted her.
As word of the notification-by-text has trickled out, many Dixon supporters say her 21 years in the district and nine months at the helm of it should have warranted the courtesy of a personal visit -- or at least a phone call -- to deliver the news.

"He ought to be ashamed of himself," one City Hall insider said about Petrucci.

Anyone in South Buffalo who knows Lou Petrucci is not the least bit surprised at this. He will do anything in his power to make himself look good (including telling outright lies). He will take credit for things he has no part in. His sole qualification for public office is an unbridled ability to kiss Ray McGurn's ass. Everyone and their brother knows this. I'm surprised a reporter as tenacious as Mary Pasciak hasn't exposed him yet. Total fraud.


Dixon has served the schools well in her short time as superintendent. She did the best she could under some trying circumstances. I worked with the developmentally disabled for over six years. When text messaging became popular, some of them would inform their bosses they were quitting via text message. We explained to them that that's not how adults in the real world conduct business. Obviously, nobody every relayed this basic message to Lou.

Looks like the Buffalo News has fallen upon hard times. They're about to charge subscriptions to view their website...


If you don't have a print subscription, you'll be able to buy a digital subscription for $2.49 a week. (Even without a digital subscription, everyone will have free access to some content: 10 stories a month on the website, as well as all of our breaking news, our home page, classified advertising, including death notices, and more.)

That'll be the day I pay one dime to read last week's news!  I'll simply go to the Associated Press or Reuter's websites to find out what is going on. For local news, there is always WGRZ, YNN, WBEN,WIVB, and I think WKBW still exists, also. 


I have mixed feelings about the inevitable demise of the Buffalo News. There is something about holding a newspaper in your hands or in front of you on a table that a website cannot duplicate. However, it couldn't happen to a nicer group of people. Editor Margaret Sullivan seems very professional and inherited a very difficult job. However, the News' editorial board are the biggest group of scumbuckets around. They've alienated so many readers with their political bias throughout the years. They complain about elected officials, yet endorse 25 year incumbents on a regular basis. Everyday, I check how much money this blog has earned. Then, I add 75 cents to it. That's how much I used to waste on what they pass off as news. I'll miss Rod "Race Card" Watson, Gene Warner, and Bob McCarthy, but why pay 75 cents a day to find out the latest local male "celebrity" Donny Esmonde has a crush on?


It will be funny to see how many people are dumb enough to spend $10/month on content readily available for free. It should help sites like this one out. When people can't access local news for free anymore, they'll be looking to other alternatives. And Buffalo News: the news will find it's way to blogs like mine whether you like it or not. Good riddance.

Outrageous behavior is becoming the norm


On June 10, I was pumping gas in Amherst. I was wearing my sunglasses and facing the store. Out of the door walked two women about age 30 who were noticeably overweight. They accused me of staring at them. I did see them, however, I was pumping my gas, not staring at them. Next thing I knew, something hit me in the face. It was a hard yellow ball. I didn’t know what hit me. They drove off, flipping me the bird and yelling out the window “ha, ha, Superball.”
We are living in a society of barbarians on the road (road rage), in the neighborhoods (shootings), with workplace bullies, drunken drivers who don’t own up to their offenses and get away with it, thanks to the defense lawyers, and now this type of behavior.

I don't know what relevance the women's weight had to do with their behavior in this instance. However, this letter made me laugh. We've all been in line at the local gas station and crossed paths with the trashers. They're usually buying cigars (to smoke their weed), lottery tickets,and booze. They take six years to order their scratch offs. Never once do they stop and think that there are people behind them (who actually might be on their way to work.


These are the type of people worthy of being stared at (much like you'd stare at an animal at a zoo.)Personally, I try to look the other way, especially now that I know they may be carrying superballs.

What was this about?

Another week. Another story about one of Buffalo's frailest. Investigators are trying to figure out what injured Buffalo Police Officer Martin Mobley was doing at the house of Dr. Jekyll immediately after the ECMC homicide...


Martin L. Motley III has been on long-term sick leave for a work-related injury and should not have been out of his Buffalo home, according to police.


Why Motley was at Jorden's home remains an unanswered question, detectives said. Hamburg police who were staking out the doctor's residence took Motley into custody at 11 a.m. as he left the house with $5,000 and a Rolex watch.


Mobley will be severely reprimanded by the department, unless he is a friend of Byron Brown. Then he'll be given a slap on the wrist, a promotion, and probably a more expensive watch.

I wasn't aware of this until I saw it yesterday. Karl Wallenda, Nik Wallenda's great grandfather, fell to his death in Puerto Rico, on the high wire. He was 73 years old at the time and should have not been performing such a stunt. If this happened to my grandfather, I'd probably have found another hobby. (Warning: Pretty graphic video)...

Letter to the editor: No goal. No Joel

After Donny Esmonde professed his undying love for local flimflam artist Joel Giambra, I had several people ask my opinion on it. Since I do everything in my power to avoid Esmonde's schoolgirl rants, I was able to avoid reading it. Most WNY residents are perfectly happy with life without Joel. He is clearly a snake oil salesman. However, it doesn't surprise me that Esmonde is fooled by his nonsensical BS...


Luckily for taxpayers Giambra era is over


A May 20 Donn Esmonde column dealt with the possible consolidation of Erie Community College into one campus. He stated that maybe the Joel Giambra era is not over. That statement turned my stomach. I’m confident that the former county executive would fund this scheme by raising the taxes again.

17 years after being run over by a car, a San Diego teenager fulfills a promise he made to himself and walks across the stage at his high school graduation. Patrick "Don't call me Allen" Ivison underwent six hours of physical therapy every day for the last three years to make it happen...


After his name was announced, Ivison – with the help of his trainer and custom walker – stood up and walked.
As he walked across the stage to his awaiting diploma, the crowd rose to their feet and encouraged him every step of the way. Ivison's service dog followed closely behind and received an award shortly after.

What a terrific story. And I think it's great that they honored his dog with an award, too. I'm sure he would have went home feeling slighted otherwise.

Finally, some good news for a change. Yesterday, we mentioned that the Caz Coffee Cafe would be closing up shop. Later in the day, we received a comment from M. Colpoys stating that plans are already in the works for the coffee shop/eatery to be taken over by the folks at the Dog Ears Bookstore. The bookstore is actually a non-profit entity.


The money raised there will continue to go to various causes in the community. The thing I've always liked about the bookstore is that it is accessible to everyone. The staff I've encountered there have always been friendly and knowledgeable. If you're a frequenter of the coffee shop or bookstore, now's your chance to tell the owners what you are looking for as a customer. Some people have mentioned topless waitresses. It's just one more idea being tossed out there. Seriously, I think it's one of the bright spots in the community and I'm happy the good work over there will be continuing.

A man with no hands, who only speaks Swahili, threw a large boulder through the window of a KFC restaurant in New Mexico yesterday. After that, things began to get weird...


Employees of the Albuquerque fried chicken joint say that on Friday they saw Koffi Mbairamadji allegedly use his arms to toss a volleyball-sized rock at the windows, according to KOAT.
Mbairamadji, 46, also allegedly grabbed a brick and hurled it through a drive-through window.


I was in the KFC next to Quinn's Funeral Home yesterday. I'm surprised more incidents like this one haven't taken place. The tables were dirty, the customers were dirty (including me), and the workers all looked like they were out on parole. I think I was the only one in there not wearing an ankle bracelet...

Caz Cafe closing it's doors

I was sad to hear the news of the Caz Coffee Cafe closing down. Since it opened a few years ago, I heard nothing but great things about the place. I'm not a coffee drinker, but stop by many times to listen to live music.


The experiences I had there were terrific. The only drawback to me was the cramped space inside. Sometimes, it could be difficult finding a seat when the musicians played. I enjoyed listening to the many types of music the coffee house had to offer. My niece, Sarah, the official mayor of the cafe (according to four square), wrote the following piece for Buffalo.com. There seemed to be an interest in this type of place on Abbott Rd. Hopefully, another entrepreneur will give it a go (perhaps at a slightly bigger building).
