Iranian woman sentenced to death by stoning

People can say anything they want about different cultures. They can say Muslims like this are simply extremists and do not represent the entire group as a whole. I disagree with that. These people are simply nuts. A woman in Iran, who has already received 99 lashes, has recently been sentenced to death by stoning because of the crime of adultery. Recently. As in the year 2010 and not the year 40 BC.

The President of Iran and his top men refuse to do anything to stop the stoning. Why would they? It's probably politically unpopular to oppose the sentence in a country where 99% of the people are crazy. After all, look at who they elected President. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is speculated to have been one of the criminals who took the 50 American Embassy workers hostage for over a year in 1979. In our country, we put people like this in jail. In Iran, they apparently elect them President. In countries like Iran, women are themselves arrested for the "crime" of being raped. Honor killings still take place with regularity. For example, a boy commits a crime. His sister is raped or even killed in a sanctioned act by order of the judge as a punishment for her brother's crime. In their warped view, this is said to bring honor to the family.

With a mindset like this, it's hard to believe anyone would take these people seriously. It's easy to say it's just the actions of a few. However, these extremists must have the backing of the general public to allow this stuff to continue. And these are people who claim to be working with us? No thanks.

Goodbye Bass Pro

According to some people in this area, it's our fault Bass Pro didn't decide to come here necause they weren't used to all the "negativity" of our region. I guess it had nothing to do with the $35 million dollar taxpayer subsidy they were looking for.

In 2001, Mayor Masiello tried to sell Bass Pro as a regional store that would attract shoppers from all ends of the earth. From the Buffalo News:

"They only open one store in a given region, and if they select Buffalo, we would have the only Bass Pro Shop in the Northeast," Masiello said in 2001. Since then, Bass Pro has opened stores in Auburn and near Toronto. Bass Pro also has shops in Harrisburg, Pa., Cincinnati and Toledo, Ohio.

A visionary, he was not. Some people are trying to label opponents of the Bass Pro project as obstructionists but I disagree with this. It was a bad deal from the start. The jobs created by Bass Pro would have been lower paying jobs, anyway. I heard Brian Higgins on the radio yesterday saying we need to improve the infrastructure by the canal and businesses will express interest. I agree with this. Allowing Bass Pro to continue their charade was becoming an embarrassment. Buffalo doesn't need big chains to develop it's waterfront:

Lazio fires campaign manager as a result of Paladino's momentum

Lobbyist Kevin Fullington was replaced today as Rick Lazio's campaign manager in favor of Matt Walter, another sign that Carl Paladino's campaign has captured the momentum for the Republican Gubernatorial primary. From today's Buffalo News:

In addition, Lazio has not showed any real success in fundraising, reporting only $688,000 on hand as of July 15. Paladino has vowed to spend up to $10 million of his own money.

It makes you wonder why the state's Republican leaders went with Lazio over Paladino in the 1st place. Oh yea. Probably the fact they knew they couldn't control Paladino and that he might actually look out for the interests of New York state taxpayers and not just the interests of party leaders. Lazio went on to thank Fullington for his service:

"I cannot thank Kevin Fullington enough for a successful convention and his long hours and hard work to ready this campaign for the final push," Lazio said.

Hahahahahahahaha. Nice spin, Rick. Why didn't he just say,"You've done a terrific job. That's why we have to fire you"? Does Lazio know the former Spokesperson for Iraq? Remember in the 1st Gulf War, that guy would get on TV and tell the Iraqi people to ignore all the bombs flying over their heads. It was actually an illusion.They were really defeating the Americans, militarily.

Stay away from Georgia

A guy in Georgia went out fishing and saw hundreds of alligators, in what scientists are calling a rare "cooperative feeding". (I think I saw the same thing once at Tops on South Park and Bailey Ave.) Of course, he did what any normal redneck would do in this situation: He drove his boat right through them...

"I saw the video, but haven't been it (cooperative feeding) before myself," said Refuge Biologist Sarah Aicher. "Others who have been here longer said they saw it happen once around the (Suwannee River) sill area, where there were a large congregation of mud-fish, and the alligators had a communal feeding of the mud-fish. The alligators, somehow, get a signal and congregate and feed. It's a mystery how they do that."

Lawsuits will not deter Delano

You can always tell when someone is trying to do a good thing in area politics: the local Democrats and Republicans work together to oppose them. Dennis Delano must be perceived as a guy neither party can control, as evidenced by the fact they are trying to invalidate his signatures for Cheektowaga town judge.

Signatures are another advantage of incumbancy, as the incumbants are able to use their supporters (whose jobs usually depend on them getting reelected) to collect them. When someone is a challenger, it is much harder to get on the ballot, as the incumbants already have ready made sychophants on their side. This challenge will not succeed. Delano is a good man and deserves to be on the ballot. The establishment is clearly threatened by his popularity.

In an unrelated matter, Erie Couny Democratic Chairman Len Lenihan was sued for having the worst combover in the Western Hemisphere...

Bankrupt man sells famous hotel in London

An unemployed, bankrupt man in England recently sold the Ritz hotel building in London. The only problem was he didn't own it:

Last month, Lee, an undischarged bankrupt who had a police caution for theft and was behind with his rent at the time of the scam, was found guilty of obtaining the £1m by deception.

I guess if something seems too good to be true... One of the following examples is about a guy who used to sell New York City landmarks for a living. He apparantly "sold" the Brooklyn Bridge twice a week to unsuspecting tourists hoping to cash in on toll booths. We should try this with the Peace Bridge here in Buffalo. Maybe, the twin span might eventually get built.

Other landmark scams
While Anthony Lee's scam was outrageous, it was by no means original. Selling famous landmarks to gullible businessmen is nothing new.

* In 1925 after reading about the great expense involved in the upkeep of the Eiffel Tower, Victor Lustig saw his opportunity. He "sold" it to Andre Poisson for 250,000 francs. Poisson was too embarrassed to go to the police so Lustig "sold" it again, to a scrap metal dealer. This time the man did go to the police.

* In 1947 George C Parker made a living selling New York landmarks to tourists. He sold the Brooklyn Bridge twice a week for years, telling people they could charge people to cross the bridge. Police often had to remove people setting up their own toll booths.

* Arthur Ferguson traded in British landmarks after the First World War. He sold several landmarks many times, charging $5,000 for Big Ben, $30,000 for Nelson's Column and took $10,000 for Buckingham Palace.

Criminals collecting full pensions

New York State public officials in jail for accepting bribes and child molestation are still collecting full pensions from the state. Most of the crimes are tied into their jobs. One lawmaker tried to outlaw this. His proposal was shot down because the lawmakers are afraid it could be them behind bars someday. I've said it before. The state is currently being run by criminals. This story proves it...

Abuse of power in North Tonawanda

Here's a clear example of abuse of power that I hope Western New Yorkers will not tolerate. The 23 year old daughter of a North Tonawanda Alderwoman Nancy Donovan gets arrested for DWI after she slams into two parked cars. The DA, Michael Violante, has it reduced to a non-alcohol related offense.The equivalent of a traffic ticket. How does he think this makes the victims of previous DWI cases feel?

If this was one of your relatives, do you think the DA would have offered up such a deal? No way. But in Western New York politics, if you're related to someone, you don't have to play by the same rules as the rest of us. You're part of the privileged class. Violante and the judge should both be reprimanded and this case needs to be reopened. It is a clear example of political corruptness. I hope the mainstream media continues investigating this miscarriage of justice.

City parolees will now be working to clean up the neighborhoods. This is a good thing as long as they aren't violent felons. But wait a minute. They will be... From the Buffalo News:

The program does not accept convicted sex offenders or arsonists, said Jeffrey Conrad, the group’s Erie County director. Convicted murderers and other violent criminals are accepted on a “case-by-case” basis, Conrad told the Common Council’s Finance Committee on Tuesday.

So convicted murderers and violent felons will be accepted on a "case by case" basis? Your neighbors are in trouble if Jeff Conrad has anything to do with the selection process. Conrad is a graduate of the Brian Higgins School for Unqualified Ass-Kissers. He began prostituting himself to Higgins around the age of 14 and hasn't stopped since.

Although he was appointed Councilmember by the Brian Higgins' controlled Democratic Committee, voters quickly saw through the charade. Despite having every endorsement known to man, Conrad snatched defeat from the jaws of victory against an underfunded and unknown opponent in Mickey Kearns. This doesn't stop Conrad, who will never be confused with a Rhode scholar, from writing letters of self-promotion to the Buffalo News every three weeks, identifying himself as "former Common Councilmember." Dude, you were a Councilmember for about five months until the word got out around town that your bike required training wheels.

If I was elderly and I knew this hack was supervising violent criminals in my neighborhood, I would go buy a gun...

Car break in caught on tape

This type of crime is all too common these days in the city. The criminal, usually a drug addict, goes out at night breaking into cars, stealing change, GPS systems, and anything else valuable. It happens in all parts of the city. They rarely get caught and when they do, they get a slap on the wrist. There are people downtown doing this daily for a living. If Deputy Mayor Brown was really serious about quality of life issues, he would work with the judges to start throwing the book at these criminals. Watch how quickly the word would spread across the local crackhead community that this type of behavior will not be tolerated in our city. Hopefully, this thief will get ratted out...

Scam artist

This story is an example of why I never give money unless I can see firsthand who benefits from it. A woman in New York City has been dressing up as a nun for over a decade and scamming people:

A woman who donned a habit and cross and asked diners to give donations for the needy is no longer welcome in New York's Little Italy after restaurant owners found out she wasn't actually a nun.

The New York Post reports that 54-year-old Mindy LeGrand would walk around the neighborhood claiming she was an Episcopal nun raising money for an orphanage and for the homeless. The Post says the orphanage does not exist and LeGrand has no affiliation to any church.

LeGrand was seen begging on a recent Saturday afternoon before she pulled off her habit and skirt and walked home in a pink tank top and shorts while smoking. The Post says she was caught doing the same thing in the Bronx in 1997.

Random Thoughts From the Ghetto-Volume 31

I look out my window and see the empty 40 oz beer bottles, hypodermic needles, crack pipes and abandoned shopping carts on my front lawn and begin to think. The end results have become known as my random thoughts from the ghetto...

-I wonder where BP found the actor with the thick Louisianna accent that starts their commercial with, "I grew up on the Gulf Coast and I am going to do everything in my power..." Damage control at it's finest. Now, if they were only as good at fixing the damage to the well...

-One of my favorite opening scenes to a TV show was the Odd Couple. It was funny when Oscar tried to help the old lady across the busy street and got punched by the oversized Boy Scout.

-Power windows are the biggest joke of the 21st Century. They constantly break and are very expensive to have fixed. I never had a problem with manual windows and it did not require too much work to operate them. Power windows do not represent progress.

-If I had a nickel for every time someone started a sentence with, "Please don't let this end up on your blog", I'd have $2.85.

-Lebron James showed very poor judgement with his stupid TV show signing announcement on ESPN. ESPN showed poor judgement in airing it. What a slap in the face to Cleveland and small market cities everywhere. I hope this clown never gets a championship ring.

-People just refuse to accept that the WWF is now known as the WWE. The World Wrestling Federation was forced to make the change years ago after the World Wildlife Foundation sued them. Still, every time a game gets out of hand, I hear somebody say, "What is this, the WWF?" I guess accepting change is difficult for some people.

-One sure sign you're in the ghetto is when people stop their cars in the middle of the street to chat. I might do this once in awhile, but there is always a slight sense of urgency if there is a car behind me. Not these people. You're trying to drive from one end of the street to the other? How is that more important than the conversation I'm having in the middle of the street about how to scam the Social Services Department? They don't have a clue.

If I owned a Chinese restaurant, I'd love to throw in a few that said things like, "You will leave here and get bitten by a rabid dog" or "You will suffer a massive heart attack and barely survive" or "Your wife will leave you for another woman."

Higgins and Lee: fat cats in Washington

Republican Chris Lee and Democrat Brian Higgins have taken part in a rare bipartisan effort to waste your tax dollars, according to an article in today's Buffalo News. They are far away in Washington blowing your money on flashy literature and no show jobs for their ethically challenged friends.

Lee has spent over $250,000 on mailings promoting himself, which he sent out to voters in his district. If he wanted to spend his own money on this, it wouldn't be a problem. The problem is he is spending our hard earned taxes:

It's all part of what's call the "franking privilege," which allows lawmakers to mail information to their constituents at government expense.

Lee's spending on franked mail and printing totaled $256,448. His slickly produced fliers -- in full color and on thick glossy paper -- feature headlines such as "Congressman Chris Lee -- Fighting for Western New York jobs and workers."

This all coming from a self-proclaimed fiscal conservative. I guess Lee's not as conservative when he's spending your money to promote himself.

Not to be outdone, the article goes on to document Congressman Brian Higgins' bloated, overpaid staff of hooligans:

Meanwhile, Higgins, a Buffalo Democrat, spent $300,000 more on staff salaries than either Lee or Slaughter.

Higgins' office spent slightly more than Lee's overall -- and far more on staff than either of the other Western New York representatives.
In fact, Higgins paid more than his colleagues did for many staff positions. Most notably, Higgins' chief of staff, Chuck Eaton, earned $152,310 in 2009 -- $28,609 more than Brian Schubert, Lee's top aide.

"I believe I have the best staff in the United States Congress," he said. "Our folks both in Washington and Buffalo are extraordinary. I hear it all the time ... I wish I could pay them more."

You won't hear it from me! Brian wishes he could pay them more? $152,000 isn't enough? Contrast that to the average person working in Higgins' blue collar district-if they are lucky enough to have a job. How would Higgins know anything about them? He's been given one white collar job after another since birth.

People in Higgins' South Buffalo district work very hard to make ends meet and pay their utility bills on time. Eaton makes about 4 times what he is worth. Bonnie "I gave you your user fee when I was a Councilmember" Kane Lockwood makes over $80,000 to carry Higgins' clipboard for him.


The "employee" Brian Higgins has yet to respond to his neighborhood blogger about is Richard Finnigan. Records show we pay Finnigan $20,000/yr in federal taxes to "work" for Higgins. Finnigan already works full-time for the Buffalo Board of Education and part time for Erie County at the Flickinger Center. I would love to ask Brian Higgins what hours Finnigan works and what his duties are, and when he could possibly have the time to perform them. He's a known political hack. Brian obviously doesn't want to talk about him, but don't worry-we will. These people should all be in jail.

Buffalo summer school teachers get stiffed

In a shocking development, the Buffalo Public Schools administration failed to pay it's summer school teachers on Friday as scheduled. This is surprising, since the people over at City Hall are usually known for being so well organized...

About 100 Buffalo Public Schools teachers who expected to get paid Friday for working in summer school have been told they will have to wait until Monday for their checks.
One teacher said that when she first called the payroll department about the situation, she was told the problem was with her bank.
“Summer pay is a complex organism with a lot of funding sources,” a spokesperson wrote in a brief e-mail. “Whatever the problem is, it will be resolved soon.”

Not surprisingly, those "funding sources" did not affect Buffalo's most overpaid residency violator, James Kane.

Kane's ridiculously high paycheck arrived on time at his suburban Western New York home on Friday. It doesn't matter if the teachers get paid on time, but the overpaid administrators? That's another story. Can somebody tell me what they do all day to warrant the pay they receive?

Bear trapped in car in Colorado

A bear was trapped in a car outside Denver , Colorado this week after someone left a peanut butter sandwich on the back seat.

Story told CNN the bear was probably drawn to a peanut butter sandwich left inside by his 17-year-old son Ben. He said the family didn't realize what was going on until deputies arrived and the neighbor came back and called them. By then the car was no longer in the driveway.

It left a foul-smelling "present" on the front seat.

Society of victims

A bunch of punks knock on a family's doors and ring the doorbells at the same time near Albany. It is a prank called the Ding dong ditch. (When we did it, we called it something else, which cannot be printed here.) The homeowner was faster than the teenagers thought and tackled one of them. He called police and held him until they got there. End of story. Right? Wrong. Now, the homeowner is being charged with endangering a child and harrassment. The boy's father is afraid his son's feelings might have been hurt during ther ordeal. Wasn't the homeowner the one being harrassed here?

When we did things like this as teenagers, we fully expected to be beaten up if caught. The last thing we'd expect would be to be labeled a crime victim. At the heart of this mischaracterization of justice is the teenager's parents. Instead of telling the kid he got what he deserved, they consider their son to be the victim. Obviously, there is no discipline going on in their house. If there's any justice, the judge will throw this case out of court and tell the teeneager he shouldn't be harrassing his neighbors at their homes at 10 PM.

The village of Blasdell unanimously accepted the resignation of mayor Ernest Jewitt. Apparently, Jewitt wasn't doing enough to rip off motorists and haul them off to traffic court in the one mile wide village:

In recent months, Deputy Mayor Bob Warner has presided over the board meetings. In addition, most resolutions requiring authorization by the mayor have been approved by the board with a sidebar allowing the deputy mayor to act in the mayor’s absence.

If elected, Warner's top priorities might include, education, lowering taxes, and the continued fleecing of anyone attempting to drive through the village.

False Tough Guy

Former West Seneca police officer Sean Kelley must be one tough guy. After feeling insulted by a fellow bar patron, Kelley showed how "tough" he really was. He called two on duty cops to the scene and then beat up the guy he had been in an argument with. The same guy who bought Kelley and his girlfriend drinks and apologized for whatever he said.

This other guy might be a jerk or a drunk. Who knows? But calling the cops and then beating him badly does not make Kelley a tough guy. The sad part is, I'll bet Kelley really still thinks he is a tough guy. Sorry, ex-small town cop. You're 30 years old. Fighting over something so stupid and losing your job in the process does not make you a tough guy. It makes you an unemployed guy.

My sources (ok, the people commenting underneath the story) say Kelley's father is a West Seneca political hack (these guys should walk around with tattoos on their foreheads for identification). Rumor has it, he prostituted himself to former town supervisor Paul Clark to get short-fused Junior the job of small town cop. I'm sure, as we speak, he is working on getting him some other job in law enforcement or the prison system (right after he gets him out of jail for breaking the law). Good move by the West Seneca Chief for turning the matter over to the FBI. The whole crew shouldn't be made to look bad because of the actions of one hothead.

Even the gang members around here are residency violators. Three gang members shouted "Central Park for life" as they beat up one of their rivals. What are they talking about? One lives in Amherst and another lives in Cheektowaga. If it's Central Park for life, then why did you move? And more importantly, why would you want to come back?

Three teen gang members were arrested Wednesday afternoon after a Lasalle Avenue woman and her two teenage nephews were attacked at the University Metro Rail station, transit police said.
Charged with gang assault and disorderly conduct were Daion Jordan, 17, of Flores Court, Cheektowaga; Andre Benefield, 16, of Pheasant Run, Amherst; and Dajore X. Houston, 17, of Minnesota Avenue.
The attackers shouted, “Central Park for life.” Police believe this is a reference to the Central Park Posse gang.

In a move that earns him our Grandstander of the Week Award, Congressman Brian Higgins has given Bass Pro a 14 day ultimatum to sign a deal or not. From the Buffalo News:

"I write today because I must inform you that if Bass Pro Shops is either unable or unwilling to act on the lease within the next 14 days, I will insist that the officials of the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. proceed with their initiative without Bass Pro's involvement," the letter said.

When asked to respond to Higgins' letter, a spokesman for Bass Pro said, "I know you are. But, what am I?"

Dissolve all the villages

Kevin Gaughan's issue of dissolving the Villages and towns was never really that big with me...until now. The biggest scam on the rest of us are the town traffic courts.

These small towns don't care about public safety. Everyone knows it's about how much of our hard earned money they can generate from us while we attempt to drive through their towns. Take Blasdell for instance. One day, a few months ago, I went to the bank on a day off from work. All of a sudden, I get pulled over by some Barney Fifelike cop. I had no idea why. I wasn't speeding, talking on my cell phone, or texting. My seat belt was on. He said I didn't come to a complete stop at the blinking red light on Lake Avenue. Now, had I completely blew it off, I would understood. There was nobody on the road and, probably out of force of habit, I hit the gas pedal at around 2 MPH (after breaking).

This heinous act ended up costing me $115 after I pleaded down to three parking tickets. What a complete joke! In today's recession, was my infraction worth that much to society? I hope everyone working for the Village of Blasdell gets the H1N1 virus and stays sick for a year.

Since the village get all the money, it amounts to a commuter tax for driving through their shit town. On any nice afternoon, watch around South Park and Lake Avenue as they pull over one unsuspecting motorist after another for minor infractions. With all the money these crooks are bringing in, it's no wonder they fight when taxpayers want them dissolved. It's not just Blasdell. Scenes like this are playing out in towns and villages all over Erie County.

I hope Gaughan is successfull and all of these low life, white trash villages get dissolved. The only one I like is Williamsville. They are very snobby, but they don't pull everyone over and harrass them like Hamburg, Blasdell, Kenmore, Tonawanda, etc.

The picture below is outside of traffic court in Blasdell yesterday. This was around 6:30 PM. People began showing up at 4PM. Inside, there were hundreds of others in the full courtroom or in line (waiting to talk to the prosecuter). You can't tell, but the line went all the way around the building. All of this money is going to the crooks that run this town. I seriously doubt they are giving any of it back to the people living in the trailor parks along Electric Avenue. We're all on to your sorry act, crooks. Dissolve immediately.

The Erie Railroad was laid through this area in the 1870's. A gentleman from North Collins by the name of Herman Blasdell was the first Station Master for the depot built as the crossover of the Erie and Pennsylvania Railroads. He received permission from the United States Government to establish a Post Office in this depot. Having no name for this area and very few residents, he proceeded to put his own name on the depot. Hence, the name Blasdell.
Today, the Village is approximately one square mile.

Patronage alert: NY State Thruway Authority

Remember when Paul Clark ran the commercial with dozens of Keanes walking around waiting for their patronage jobs? Jim Keane was the candidate that year for County Executive. The voters overwhelmingly chose an unknown opponent over Keane because they wanted change. They knew Keane was all about the Keanes at the expense of the rest of us.

Now, I'm hearing through an anonymous source that Richard Keane, Jr. has just been given an $86,000/yr job with the Thruway Authority. Was this job posted for the rest of us to apply for or was it simply "owed" to one of the the Keanes? I know Richard Keane, Jr. He's a great guy. But how do you hand someone an $86,000/yr job during a recession when the rest of us are struggling to pay our bills?
