New WalMart on Seneca Street

Stop by this Friday at 1PM and join the South Buffalo Team (Brian Higgins, Mark Schroeder, and Tim Kennedy) as they join West Seneca's Wallace Piotrowski for the grand opening of the new Walmart on Seneca Street.

As this after photo shows, the transformation has been incredible. Walk inside and see the cat sized rats amidst the broken down Gold Circle shopping carts. Hopefully, your car won't fall through the huge cracks in the parking lot.
You thought the Seneca Street revitalization project was just a scam? You've obviously haven't been to the government funded GED Center. You clearly haven't walked through the government funded Americorps offices. Salvation Army? Don't forget the Methadone clinic down the street. You don't know what you've been missing. This stretch of land looks like a Berlin ghetto in the height of WWII.

Empty storefront, empty promises

Regular readers of this blog (there are actually two or three of them) have been inquiring about the status of the new WalMart on Seneca Street. It appears to me that it is a dead deal. Here is an excerpt from a May 2010 Buffalo News article on the proposed new business...
Walmart is proposing a smaller supercenter at an old retail site on Seneca Street at the Buffalo-West Seneca border. The store, which would bring 300 jobs, would "eliminate a vacant eyesore" — a large building that has sat empty and been a target for vandals for about eight years, West Seneca Supervisor Wallace Piotrowski said.
The rumor going around town these days is that it is not going to happen. Customers at Tony's Hairstyling on Seneca St. have been wondering about what they call another empty promise by local officials. I laughed when someone close to the situation commented on here that the project was taking a long time because of "environmental studies." Funny, but in areas WalMart actually wants to build, there are never any such delays. We did some digging and think the reason for the company not building here may have been hidden in the very same article. Just look at WalMart as the Bass Pro of South Buffalo...
Last week, he joined Walmart executives from Arkansas for a meeting with Mayor Byron W. Brown in Buffalo City Hall to discuss the project. Formal plans have yet to be submitted for approval.

Red flag! There's your answer.

Extreme April Fools Joke

How come it seems like almost every crazy story these days is taking place at local Wal Marts? A harmless prank is one thing, but placing crazy glue on a toilet seat in a public restroom? Seems like this could be the work of an antisocial deviant. Police say if the perpetrator is caught, he will most likely be charged with 2nd degree assault. They are hoping the charges will "stick"...
Man Glued to Toilet Seat in Store Bathroom
ELKTON, Md. - Elkton police say a man became stuck to a department store toilet seat after someone spread glue on it.
It happened Thursday evening at the Walmart in Elkton. Officials refused to say how long the man was stuck before he was able to get help.
Police say emergency workers removed the seat from the toilet and took the man out with seat still attached to him. The seat was removed at the emergency room at Union Hospital.
Police say the incident is a second-degree assault case that may have been a random prank the night before April Fool's Day.
Man Glued To Toilet Seat in Store BathroomOh, I'm leaving on that midnight train tomorrow
And I know just where I'm going
I've packed up my troubles and I've thrown them all away
'Cause this time little darling
I'm coming home to stay
I'm stuck on you ...

Multitasking

Who is the last person you would expect to rob a WalMart at gunpoint? If you said the store's 83 year old greeter, you win $200 and control of the board...
Police in Statesville say an 83-year-old man who worked at a Wal-Mart store as a greeter is in jail, charged with donning a disguise and robbing the store at gunpoint Sunday night.
George Plane Jr., of Mooresville, was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and discharging a firearm inside the city limits, police say.
According to police, Plane was working Sunday night in his normal job at the Wal-Mart store in the Crossroads Shopping Center, off Interstate 40 just west of Interstate 77.
Sometime shortly before 7 p.m., police say, Plane went to his car.
Minutes later, a man wearing a disguise returned to the garden center area of the store and pointed a gun at an employee, demanding money from the cash register. Shortly after taking money, police say, the gunman fired at least one shot into the air. Police say the man escaped with money, got in his car and drove off.

Woman Accused Of Pushing 100-Year-Old Walmart Greeter - Video - WISN Milwaukee

A 100 year old Walmart greeter was shoved to the ground yesterday in Milwaukee. Lois Speelman began working at the store 10 years ago at the age of 90. The 37 year old customer has no past criminal record. People should not be so quick to judge the defendant. Speelman could be a sweet little old lady or a power hungry overzealous employee. We don't know. But assaulting her while she was attempting to do her job, looks like an overreaction on the face of it.
We attempted to contact Speelman's 6th grade teacher to ask her questions about her character but we're told she died 57 years ago...
MILWAUKEE – A 100-year-old greeter at a Milwaukee Walmart was shoved by a customer after the centenarian tried to stop the woman to determine if she'd paid for items that were in the lower part of her shopping cart, police said Monday.
Greeter Lois Speelman fell down and went to a hospital after she was shoved on Sunday."I'm bruised a little, but I'm able to go back to work Thursday," Speelman told The Associated Press from her home on Monday.

Always Low Prices (And Low Class Shoppers)

Nothing like going out in public dressed as a stripper.

Time for a nap.

Are you kidding me?

I think I met these two at a party once.

The laws of gravity in full effect.

This is what happens when flannel meets polka dots.
