The Blogger will not be silenced by threats

Liberty may be endangered by the abuse of liberty, but also by the abuse of power.
-James Madison

From what I'm told, some members of law enforcement were not happy with one of my recent posts. A member of one of the campaigns for South District Council sent me a picture of a police cruiser parked in front of the Blackthorn at the same time Christopher Scanlon was having one of his fundraisers. The source was upset and said he didn't think it was right for a police officer, while on duty, to attend a political event.

To me, this was a minor story. I don't care what people do as long as it doesn't affect my life. My goal was not to get anyone in trouble, but highlight the fact that Chris Scanlon is the candidate of the status quo establishment. While I'm supporting A.J. Verel, I've actually been too busy lately to get involved in the race.  So I was very surprised to hear from a credible source that members of the A District were looking to throw me in the Erie County Holding Center on made up charges. Apparently, it is against the law to charge someone with 1st degree blogging, so the charges would have to be trumped up. I was even told that the plan was to arrest me on a Friday, so I'd have to spend the whole weekend behind bars.  I find it very troubling that anyone would think they could get away with such a thing. I read the story last week about the man allegedly thrown down a flight of stairs while handcuffed. I chose not to print it because there was no proof that it happened and the man in question is a convicted murderer. Out of respect for law enforcement, I decided to give the police officer in question the benefit of the doubt. However, when I hear that certain police officers would entertain the thought of making up charges against a law abiding city resident, it makes me wonder.

In any event, I've communicated to the South District Police Chief, through a good friend of mine. I've also spoken to my attorney, who happens to specialize in civil rights. He encouraged me to make this post today, in case the people in question decide to follow through on their threat. I've never been arrested for anything and the only weapon I carry around is my IPad.

Ironically, I'm not a protester or one of those people who think all cops are no good. I have several friends who are police officers and I've never had a problem with any of them. It always annoys me when protesters fight with the police when they are there protesting some bigger power. I guess to them, the police symbolize authority.

Ellen

A powerful New York state government Board refuses to release to the public any record of a secret vote they had to hire longtime Andrew Cuomo aide Ellen Biben at $148,000/yr. I think this calls for an investigation by the New York State Board of Ethics. Oh, wait...
They're the group we're talking about...

ALBANY, N.Y. -- New York's powerful new ethics board has refused to release to the public any record of the secret vote to hire a longtime aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo as its $148,000-a-year executive director.

The Joint Commission on Public Ethics, which has broad powers to investigate legislators and other officials, denied The Associated Press request for the records under the state Freedom of Information Law.

The board voted Feb. 2 to hire Ellen Biben.

I warned you about Cuomo. Good thing we didn't elect the corrupt Carl Paladino. Say what you want about him. I doubt we'd be talking about secret votes and longtime political cronies being appointed to obviously meaningless government positions. If you can't count on the Board of Ethics to be open and transparent, who can you count on? I think this calls for the creation of another government entity to keep an eye on the Board of Ethics. Know any more out of work sycophants looking for jobs, Andrew?

In other news, someone actually relocated to New York State from North Carolina this week. We'll have camera crews over to the house to interview them later today. The said something about being frustrated by the state's low gas prices, nice weather, and business-friendly economy...

The Robin Hood of Niagara Falls

You want to know why the Canadian side of the Falls is booming and the American side looks like Flint, Michigan? Watch this two minute clip from WIVB.

200 people showed up at a Lewiston Fire Hall to honor three time convicted felon John Gross before he goes off to jail yet again...

Dick Paladino of Laborers Local #91 said, "There's not anybody coming here tonight who can't say thank you to John and that's why they're here. he has done more favors for more people in the last 50 years, never got any recognition for it, never wanted it."

The tickets were $35 a piece payable to the Niagara Falls Republican Committee which plans to send the leftover proceeds to three of Gross's favorite charities.

Me, myself, and I? The event was actually organized by the Niagara Falls Republican Committee! The best quote of the night came from Gross himself, in response to whether the people in the room owed him something.

Gross said, "Everybody owes. You owe, I owe and we all help each other and that's what makes a community."

Vito Corleone couldn't have said it better himself...

Wanamaker pleads guily to major theft

This week's city hall scandal (which Byron Brown had no idea was going on) is brought to you by Fuccillo Chevrolet in Grand Island. Come see them in December for huuuuge savings!

Tim Wanamaker took a plea deal with the FBI and admitted using his BERC credit card to buy $30,000 worth of items for himself and his family. He was formerly in charge of Strategic Planning. Brown didn't tell us he was planning on using our tax dollars to add to his already outrageous salary. Is there a member of this administration who hasn't been caught stealing public money?

Take careful notice of the mayor's spokesperson, Mike DeGeorge (behind Brown) in the following clip. He looks like he's either on crystal meth or out on a weekend pass. Where do they find these people? Forrest Avenue? Crazy facial expressions, arms folded across his chest. Hey Mike. This just in: Dale Carnegie devotes a whole chapter to nonverbal communication skills in his book How to Win Friends and Influence People. It's available on Amazon for $10.20. You might want to pick it up...

Abuse of power in North Tonawanda

Here's a clear example of abuse of power that I hope Western New Yorkers will not tolerate. The 23 year old daughter of a North Tonawanda Alderwoman Nancy Donovan gets arrested for DWI after she slams into two parked cars. The DA, Michael Violante, has it reduced to a non-alcohol related offense. The equivalent of a traffic ticket. How does he think this makes the victims of previous DWI cases feel?

If this was one of your relatives, do you think the DA would have offered up such a deal? No way. But in Western New York politics, if you're related to someone, you don't have to play by the same rules as the rest of us. You're part of the privileged class. Violante and the judge should both be reprimanded and this case needs to be reopened. It is a clear example of political corruptness. I hope the mainstream media continues investigating this miscarriage of justice.
