Wack pack's NFL picks: week 16

Buddy the Book and the City Hall Rooster have submitted their picks for the final week of the NFL regular season. The Bills got some turnovers last week and got back on the winning track against Denver. My favorite part of the game was when Jesus Christ came down to the field at halftime and told Tim Tebow he sucked. Actually, I was one of the lucky ones not able to see the game thanks to the greedy NFL's blackout policy.

Buddy the Book

Buddy is going with Baltimore, Miami, Carolina, and San Francisco. The coldest winter I ever spent was summer in San Francisco.

For his "play of the week", he says to go with the Boston Patriots over the hometown Bills. Boston needs this game for home field advantage, and Buddy expects the Bills to run for the bus like Forrest Gump. "This game will be over with by halftime. Tom Brady is a terrific quarterback, but it doesn't even matter. The Patriots could start Tony Eason, or Tony Hammell for that matter, and we still wouldn't have a chance,"remarked the famous Book.

The OTB Boys (The Rooster and MacGavis)

Being our point man in city hall, it will be interesting to talk to the famous bird and find out what's really going on over there. Rich Fontana is quickly becoming the Fredo Corleone of the Buffalo Common Council.

I like it. The South District Common Councilman once told me a quote from Confucius, "To trust is good, to not trust, better." He probably didn't think I would remember, but the Blogger never forgets anything. Remember, if you work in city hall and you want a friend, get a dog.

The Rooster is concerned about the Buffalo point spread going down. Some casinos have it as (-10) leaving him confused. He wonders what the hell is going on, as he thinks this one will be ugly, early. (Everyone seems to agree with him, which makes me think it could end up being a close game). His prediction is Boston 48 Bills 27. He also points out that Tennessee needs a win but Texas doesn't. He says to "Remember the Titans"(-2.5).

The Rooster and company points out they are taking Minnesota over Chicago, but points out they have been drinking. Look for Kyle Orton of the Chiefs to play well against Denver, the team that cut him earlier this season. The Rooster says Tebow will be a Fullback within the next few years. Go with the Chiefs (+3).

The game of the day will be Dallas(+3) and the NY Football Giants for the NFC East title. The G-Men have been on a roll and Dallas has been inconsistent. But (and the Rooster points out that this but is bigger than Guido's butt) this is the NSL (No Sense League). For this reason alone, the Rooster says, "Go the Sandusky way and take the Boys."

Wack pack's NFL picks: week 16

Christmas is here and the NFL regular season is winding down. It's the time of year when other cities talk about playoff possibilities and Bills fans dream of future draft busts. Buddy and the Rooster both got me their plays this week, as they have every week.

Buddy the Book

Buddy is coming off a 3-2 week. He got into his slay and headed south for Seneca Street. Although his new address is top secret, he did meet me this week by the Mineral Springs train trestle with this week's picks. He thinks the Bills are going to Tebow Denver. He likes the Raaaaaaaiiiiiiiiders, his beloved Patriots, Seattle, and Hotlanta.

The OTB Boys (The Rooster and MacGavis)

The Rooster says Hark the Angels sing, Glory to the newborn King. And that king is Tim Tebow. He says to take to take Denver over the hometown Bills. Ralph Wilson gave his QB a vote of confidence this week, which is akin to a kiss of death. This is more proof that Mr. Wilson is out of his mind. The Rooster is begging Ralph to sell the team, so he can see a Super Bowl winner in his lifetime. The only thing taking longer is the development of the Buffalo waterfront. He also says look for the teams that need a win this week: New England(-10), Baltimore(-12), Pittsburgh(-13), and Detroit(-2).

Finally, he says, it's Christmas so go out and do something nice for someone less fortunate than you.

Wack pack's NFL picks: week 15

I'd like to ask everyone for some patience, as I've clearly run out of talent. The blog is only as good as the Blogger's mood. Fortunately (or unfortunately), my mood as of late has been pretty good, which makes for less controversial opinions. In what could only be described as a ghost from Christmas' past, J.P. Losman might be making an appearance at Rich Stadium tomorrow. With it being Christmas, I expect both J.P. and the Bills to be in a charitable mood. The over/under on turnovers is at five.

Buddy the Book

Looking out on his East Amherst patio, Buddy is shaking off a tough week, where he went 1-4. If this series teaches you anything, it's do not bet on NFL games. He says he spoke to his good friend Bill Bellichick during the week and has made some adjustments. This week, The Book likes Washington, Dallas, his beloved Boston Patriots, Minnesota, and Pittsburgh's steel curtain...

The OTB Boys (The Rooster and MacGavis)

MacGavis has asked the Rooster to never call him again with a tip on a racehorse. He says,"the only thing slower than the Rooster's horse is Ray reaching for his wallet to pick up the bill." (My grandfather used to get similar tips on horses. He would make large bets and tell people it was a sure thing. According to my mother, his famous saying before betting was, "I heard it straight from the horse's mouth.") I love that quote.

The Rooster and MacGavis think the Tebow luck will run out this week. They say to go with the Patriots (-7) over the Broncos. They also like Philly (-3), the Cardinals (-6), and San Diego (+3). The Bills will be playing the Fish this week and it's possible the Big Fish (J.P. Losman) might be under center. With words like cool, rad, and aaa, the Rooster wonders which one of the Bills' brain-trust decided to go with J.P. He also does not expect Leodis McKelvin to be part of U.B's Distinguished Speaker Series any time soon. The Rooster says, if the Fins beat the Bills, he will give up Pepsi (his only vice) for six months. The OTB Boys will keep watch, he says. By the way, the Rooster's horse finished dead last and was sold to Arby's for tomorrow's lunch special (5 Roast "Beef" sandwiches for $5).

By the way, I'm sick and tired of hearing about Tim Tebow. I hope some other born again christian knocks him out of the game and and announces it as a sign that God likes him better. If he's so religious, what is he doing playing football on Sundays?

Wack pack's NFL picks: week 14

We're into the second week of December football in the NFL. The Bills are struggling with injuries and a lack of depth on the roster. The only team I care to watch is Green Bay. Who would have thought that Indianapolis would be winless 14 weeks into the season?

Buddy the Book

Buddy the Book called the Ninja a baby this week. He says he couldn't catch a cold and will remain on "the freeze" as far as he is concerned. "The Ninja is way in the back of my freezer next to the squash and the zucchini", Buddy said this week outside his East Amherst home. This week, Buddy likes Kansas City, Green Bay, Cincinnati, Washington, and Chicago. Last week, he was 3-2-0.

The OTB Boys (The Rooster and MacGavis)

It can never be said that the OTB boys shy away from a tough game and this week is no exception. They are taking the Bills, the Giants, and Cincinnati plus the points. Some prognosticators have their 5 or 10 star play or their play of the year. MacGavis has his Bucket of wings play of the year. He says you can take it to the bank. It's Tennessee plus the points over the New Orleans Saints. A bucket of wings will be ordered at 2PM from Big Fat Paulies on South Park Avenue. It will be devoured by 3:45PM. By the time MacGavis is done digesting the entire bucket, he says the Titans will have won this game outright. So, "remember the Titans."

Finally, the OTB boys are predicting the Monday night thriller between St. Louis and Seattle will be the most depressing Monday night game since Howard Cosell announced John Lennon's death on the air. They also say it will be more boring than "Ray having sex." I have no idea, nor do I want to know what that means.

Wack pack's NFL picks: week thirteen

My apologies to Buddy the Book, MacGavis, and the Rooster, as I was unable to post last week's picks in time. It's been a crazy few weeks. Haven't been blogging as much as usual. I'd give you the reasons but you're probably already bored enough.

For the record, MacGavis was 5-0 last week. I believe him, as we contacted the Earl of Kelly for verification. He says the picks were submitted over a pint of Guinness at O'Daniel's on Abbott Road. Interestingly enough, the Earl also admitted to helping John Hinkley Jr. attempt to assassinate President Reagan in the same conversation. This week, the Rooster wisely says "it's the NFL. Pick the teams with the pretty uniforms." Good advice. This week, MacGavis is going with Pittsburgh, Detroit, NY Giants, Redskins, and the Buffalo Bills.

Buddy continues to be banned from the Ninja's restaurant for giving the food a D rating. Both claim to have put the other on "the freeze" first. A phrase often used by the Ninja. This week, Buddy says to go with Kansas City, Detroit, Indy, Cincinnati, and the NY Giants.
