Colin Kaepernick's biological mom seeks out NFL star

Heidi Russo gave an emotional interview in which she explained her ongoing pain at giving up her biological son Colin Kaepernick for adoption 25-years ago
I found this story very sad. The biological mother of San Francisco 49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick has expressed a desire to meet him. She gave him up for adoption six weeks after giving birth to him in 1987...

Heidi has made numerous attempts to get back into contact with Colin over the past 18-years and each one has been rebuffed in a polite or lukewarm manner. 'I have to respect his wishes,' explained Russo.

During one of the brief exchanges they did have, Colin asked Heidi about his biological father.

Heidi explained to the Mercury News that she tried to contact him, but got no reply. 'I never got a response,' explained Russo. 'He has denied him for 25 years, so nothing has changed.'

With all the pressure that goes with preparing for the Super Bowl, it makes you wonder how Kaepernick can focus with things like this going on. This stuff is so much bigger than any game.

Not sure if she contacted the media or vice versa. However, maybe she should try contacting him during the off-season, when he has more time. In any event, I don't think it's fair for people to assume she is after his new found wealth. I believe it is common for biological parents to reach out to their children later in life. Some people are saying she wouldn't care about him if he was flipping burgers somewhere, but I disagree. If this topic interests you, I recommend you read the entire article here...

Buddy the Book is back from Miami with this week's picks and a variety of opinions...Hh
Just  returned back to Loserville, NY.   Still reeling about that National Championship play.  I definitely realized while analyzing this game that ND lost the  battle in the trenches. He also stated the defensive coordinator failed to prepare ND for the possibility of being buried by plow drivers (I.E. offensive line).  The offensive game plan for ND consisted of throwing an ally-op pass.  What the hell was that?  I can watch that during pop warner.  I am fed up!  I knew I should have went with my good buddy Saban (Belichik disciple).  I told the Blogger's readership that the key to this game was the offensive line vs ND defense.  ND played like the Sisters of  the Poor freshman team.  Saban is always good ATS especially during prime time TV.  NEVER NEVER AGAIN GO AGAINST GOOD BUDDY SABAN!  I hope my readers went opposite and buried their local handicapper.

Its one of those opinionated days... BUT Russ Brandon CEO!  Come on Ralph Malph! You cheap son of a pup can you get rid of the hanger on bum crowd?  Buddy Nix live at the improv is still at one Bills Drive.  Buddy- I fired you 3 years ago when you tried to sell me on disabled quarterback Fitzy. Did anyone notice the sales job that the snooze tried to give you about Fitzy during the off season?  First it was the injuries. Second he needed a Biomechanics expert for his throwing motion (Pathetic). Third he went to Harvard and was the smartest guy ever!  But you cannot throw  the FB vertivally and should be on a bus ride home.

Plays last week 3-2. Thanks to ND- The premimium members received last minute change to GB based on injury to Ponder.  This was a blue ribbion special for my premium members.  This week  Buddies plays are brought to you buy all the car commercials during the national championship blow out.  I like Denver (-9) over Ray Lewis and the senior aged Ravens.  Atlanta (-2.5) over Seattle (tough play),  New England (-9.5) Belichik  with 2 weeks to prepare??? over Houston and SF (-3) to bury GB.  Are you tired of your bookies girlfriend wearing mink coats????  Well- then call me NOW!  1-800- Bud-wins!

Has anyone seen the Ninj driving around and around and around the perimeter???

Boing! It's Buddy's plays of the week

In his syndicated column this week, Buddy the Book talks football, local politics, and about his distaste for the Buffalo News...

Recently, I had a conference call from Buddy reporting from sunny Miami FLA. Buddy indicated to me that this is a tough week. These are not strong plays for week 17. New England (-10) over MIami. This is a game that NE wants for some momentum headed into post season. New Orleans (-5) over Carolina. Saints bitter about bounty bowl suspensions. Pittsburgh (-6) over Cleveland. The bus door is wide open for these clowns. Dallas (+3.5) over Washington. This is a game that will decide the fate for Tony Romo and Jason Garrett. This is a classic rivalry game. The Jills vs Jets. Nobody cares! You should go play in a parking lot.

Its one of those opinionated days... BUT whatever happened to Andrew Rubdick and Stan Dipsey. These two so called "commnity leaders." Well- with these two Bufffalo Destroyers are off to greeener pastures. I know they loved "scamming" off Buffalo. Rubdick is gonna go into some sort of teaching at a local college?? I was thinking some substitute teaching right in the heart of Mobile Ala. This is right up is alley of giving back. Yeah Right! Let me miss these two job creators of this economically challenged area. Good job guys!

It looks like the Ninj is going through some tough times. Recently, he was spotted walking up the "love bugs" mansion with a box of pizza and bucket of wings. The poor Ninj was in his classic sideways walk up the steps. The Ninj on any given sunday will pull out all stops. I mean "options"! BOING! 1-800 Bud-wins. This is not the Buffalo News. The Blogger is not "Dim Light"! There is no editing of Buddy the book's column.

Seven more years of misery

We have good news and bad news regarding the Buffalo Bills future in Western New York. On one hand, County Executive Mark Polancarcz announced that the team has agreed to a lease extension and will call Rich Stadium it's home for at least the next seven years.

On the other hand, I lied. There is no good news.

Buddy the Book chimes in from Florida

Buddy the Book is back. I'm not sure who this mystery bookie is, but each week he gives invaluable advice to potential betters out there. At the same time, he touches on the country's fiscal crisis as the Ninja...

It's one of those opinionated days...

Buddy the book is enjoying a little R&R down in Key West with good buddy Jimmy Johnson.  The guy that has two super bowll rings compliments of Marv Levy and Jim Kelly.  Whatever happened to the debt ceiling????  We now have this grossly exagerated over the cliff????  I can't wait!  I am so fearful of heights.  I know our "so called leaders" like to give their buddies from the media over hype fear mongering story. This is kind of stretching it.  I remember red and green light from one of our former elected kickball captains. Its kind of similar to being threatened by your middle school teacher or principal.  It remains to be childish adults making childish threats.I hope they don't let the lobster loose?????

Plays of the week-  Belichik gave me a whooping!  Record last week 2-2.  This week Chicago (+3.5) over Green Bay, Baltimore (+2.5) over GB,  Seattle (-5) over the Jills bye -bye to Buddy Nix - see Ya at the improv!  Adios Chan!  You don't have it!

The big Sunday night game is gonna be a tough play.  I think that the Patriots will confuse Humperdinkle the roolie QB.  If NE gets any turnovers this will be over with quicker than you can say Steve Grogan!  However, I will go with the 9ers (+6.5).  I hope Belichick has an off night.  This is a tough play.
Extra play say goodby to the Jets and Rex Unemployed.  Titans (-1) over Jets.  Put your local Bookie out of business with these 4 star plays.  The Bills bus door is wide open.

DON'T FALL OVER THE CLIFF!

Fireman Ed calls it quits in NY

You thought the Bills were having a tough season. Fireman Ed, the New York Jets superfan whose been leading cheers at Jets' games for decades, has reportedly called it quits after finding himself the target of angry hecklers...

"This is an indication of how society has lost and is continuing to lose respect for one another," Anzalone wrote. "… The fact that I chose to wear a Sanchez jersey this year and that fans think I am on the payroll – which is an outright lie – have made these confrontations more frequent. Whether it's in the stands, the bathroom or the parking lot, these confrontations are happening on a consistent basis.
"Although I can 'hold my own,' I do not want to lose my temper and make a stupid mistake," he continued.

Several people have already lined up to take his place, including former members of the Village People and the Earl of Bud.

Sanchez attempted to call Anzalone to thank him for his years of support and loyalty, but the call was intercepted.

Buddy the Book calls for the Irish' luck to run out

Buddy the Book dialed in this week, still reeling from Bishop Timon's close loss to Canisius. Among the Book's other targets were the PA announcer, the Ninja, and the South Buffalo Irish citizenry.

He also touched on the big USC-Notre Dame game this Saturday, which I think has the potential to be the college football game of the year. Football the way it was meant to be played, between two traditional rivals on natural grass, without any juking or jiving after routine tackles or 12 yard receptions. USC could be the only thing standing between Notre Dame and their improbable run at a national championship.

South Buffalo's second most famous Polish bookie (Buddy the Book) sure wasn't in a good mood when he sent in this post...

After watching last weeks Msgr. Martin championship debacle ($7.00 admission). I thought Ralph Wilson would be charging for parking. Boing! Timon lost the momentum during 4th quarter, along with field position. They also failed to cash in on turnovers that resulted in zilch.  I applaud the effort and special congrats to the fans from both schools with attendance at approximately 3,500 (if you count the ninj 3,499). I guess the PA announcer was the chief "mascot" for the Crusaders.  The key word is mascot!

The Buddy to Buddy hits of the game go to Wellenzohn and Byrne.   Play of the game- Dougherty bomb to Vaccaro. Hits of the week will be rewarded with autographed black hi-tops from Buddy himself.
Picks of the week Detroit with 3, Washinton +3, Jets +7 over beloved Patriots, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Buddy's extra Blue Ribbon special upset alert in Saturday night's game of the year: Hell! I was talking to my good buddy Lane Kiffin during the pre-season at a Pac 10 event.  That boy can call plays- He is like an encyclopedia!  Look for USC to move the chains with ease.  The USC Trojan mascot and horse will add a special flavor to one of college footballs greatest rivals (Montana, Theisman,Golic, Horning, Brown, Allen, Garrett. Bell, Swann, Palmer, Matthews and OJ SIMPSON)! You cannot miss the upset special of the year!  USC +6 over Notre Dame.  I like USC  over the cheap "Micks" by a score of 31-21.

All hail to Alma Mater,
To thy glory we sing;
All hail to Southern California,
Loud let thy praises ring;
Where Western sky
meets Western seas
Our college stands in majesty
Sing our love to Alma Mater,
Hail, all hail to thee...

Sunday - Bills +3 over Indy, Oakland +9 over Cinn, Giants - 2.5 over Green Bay and San Fran -2 over N. Orleans.

The Rooster's NFL picks: Week 1

September is here and Ralph is still kicking. Time to put away the sunscreen and start betting on some football. I haven't placed a bet in years, but I know many of you like to. The Rooster sounds confident this year and offers his picks for week 1...

Its time for put up or shut up.The Bills are getting 3 and Jet fuel is expensive. I'm predicting that Tyrannosaurus Ryan will extinct by the end of the year. Bills 20 jets 16.

Andrew is not in Kansas anymore, I mean  Stanford. The Bears are licking their paws.Take the Bears -9.

The Raiders are my surprise pick of the year. They will make the playoffs and their QB will have a great year. Take the Raiders +1.5 over San Diego. RIP Al Davis.

San Francisco +5.5. Sounds too good to be true,  but 49ers with points is always good.

Houston -11. the Dolphins suck. Point spread should be -20.5. Houston is going far this year.

*On a side note: I'd like to know why the camera zoomed in on Cowboys Defensive coach Rob Ryan between every play last night. How much did his agents pay NBC to make the game about him? Both teams have beautiful cheerleaders and instead, we were forced to look at this friggin Caveman every 30 seconds??????

High school football picks

It's hard to believe, but on this 90 degree day in August, football season has arrived. And, despite the advice from his probation officer,  Buddy the Book has been scowling the sidelines evaluating the teams. He wishes to get the word out to the Ninja that his casino is open and he is taking bets. No bet is too big nor too small.

Buddy predicts South Park will get trounced by Hamburg this weekend. He is going with the Bulldogs minus 20 points. In the battle of the schools that both recently fired a guy named Al Monaco, Buddy is predicting an upset by his Bishop Timon Tigers over Williamsville South 35-28. On the national scene, he says put your money on USC as national champs.

Trash talker

Somebody forgot to remind former St. Joe's Quarterback Chad Kelly that he hasn't played a down of College football yet. I'm sure he endeared himself to his new teammates at Clemson with his latest Twitter post...

Kelly, a four-star dual-threat from St. Joseph's in Buffalo, N.Y., and nephew of Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly, has been committed to Clemson since last June and is visiting campus this weekend. In preparation for his visit and likely run-in with backup Quarterback Cole Stoudt, Kelly tweeted Wednesday, "Your on the bench for a reason. And i come soon! Just letting you know."

Stoudt was quick to respond with a  Twitter post of his own...

"I hate those that talk like their the shit when they haven't done anything yet."

No word yet on whether Clemson plans on making Kelly or Stoudt enroll in any pre-college remedial grammar classes this summer. Kelly seems to have the bravado of his uncle. But does he possess his abilities? I have a feeling South Carolina's pass rush is going to be slightly tougher than St. Mary's of Lancaster's. If you get a chance, please read the comments underneath the attached Yahoo story. My favorite one has to be this one from a Texas reader...

Top player in New York? They play HS football in New York? Didn't know.

Important sports story

A story with serious ramifications in the world of sport: The Lingerie Football League is taking a year off to "promote the game."

Promote the game? What are they going to do, go to schools and conduct instructional clinics? The only reason anyone would watch this is out of hope for a wardrobe malfunction. I knew this day would come. Purists will say the game should remain indoors but those of us who follow the intricacies of it knew it was only a matter of time before they moved to larger outdoor venues...

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- The U.S. Lingerie Football League is forgoing a 2012 season in order to expand the sport abroad and refocus it as a warm-weather game.

Spokesman Jim Wallin said Thursday the LFL will resume playing in April 2013 on a spring-summer playing schedule. He says the hiatus will also allow the league to concentrate on launching in Canada this fall and free U.S. players to participate in a promotional all-star tour.

Best kept secret in WNY

First Thurman and now Tasker? Former Bills Special Teams star Steve Tasker opted out of the race for Congress before anyone even knew he was in it today. I believe Tasker would have won the primary 75%-25% had he chose to run. People in this town can't get enough of the Bills, especially those from the Super Bowl teams...

I'd like to nominate Mike Keighron as Tasker's future campaign manager. He was always the biggest Tasker fan I've known. How can you not like a guy who gets thrown out of his last NFL game in the 1st Quarter? The play at 3:01 of this clip is one of my favorite plays from that era. He catches a line drive kickoff and is racing towards the endzone before most of the Raiders even knew he had the ball. This play completely changed the momentum of the playoff game, which the Bills came back and won...

Deathbed prediction

Video of a man's funeral who predicted Tim Tebow would come to the Jets(five days before the trade.) They buried the guy in a Jets Jersey and all the pallbearers wore them too. I wonder if Fireman Ed attended?...

Imperial Pizza one hour before the Super Bowl

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled (hungry?)masses..."
Photobucket
Hats off to Sully and the rest of the Imperial crew. The food was great as usual. (BTW, the black thing above the pizzeria is supposed to be an airplane.)

*Who do you think has the best pizza in South Buffalo? Don't miss the 1st Annual South Buffalo Pizza Fest at St. Teresa's Church on March 10th...

Patriots coach cuts player the night before Super Bowl

This must have been one of the moves Bill Belichick discussed with Buddy the Book at last week's secret dinner. Belichick wins our 1st annual Prick of the Year Award by cutting Wide Receiver Tiquan Underwood the night before the Super Bowl. And interestingly enough, the move was not done for any disciplinary reason. Underwood wasn't caught doing drugs in the team's hotel or anything. The coach wanted to have one more defensive lineman on the roster, in case he was needed tomorrow. From the Boston Herold...

A source said there was no disciplinary measure, and the team still wants Underwood back for next season. All of which makes the move even more harsh. He went through every bit of preparation for the game, was in the team picture, and described it as “a dream.”

More like a nightmare. Critics will write it off as a cold, callous move by Belichick. Admirers of the Hoodie will point out that the game could come down to one play, and the coach has to have his best players ready. Now you know what it means when they say the NFL is a business.

Punting is a dumb idea-study says

The current research proves something we've all known for a long time: the fans know more than the professional coaches. There are unwritten rules for fourth down in American football. If it's fourth down in your own half of the field, you punt. Fourth down inside the opponents 35 yard line, you attempt to kick a field goal. If it's fourth and one (or less), you will sometimes see teams go for the first down, assuming they are at least to midfield.

Now, statisticians and math nerds have come to the conclusion that regular fans have known for years: more teams should go for it on fourth down, especially fourth and one...

As it turns out, going for it on fourth and one from anywhere on the field makes statistical sense. Teams convert a fourth and one — which includes situations ranging from fourth-and-inches to fourth-and-a-yard-and-a-half — around 74 percent of the time.

Overall, limiting the number of possessions an opponent's offense gets, really stacks up in a team's favor. That strategy has grown even sounder in recent years because offenses have exploded. Just this season, quarterbacks racked up four of the six highest ever totals for passing yardage.

"Offenses have gradually gotten the upper hand," Burke said. "The value of possession is so much greater because of the greater chance of scoring. You never want the other offense to have the ball, and field position" — usually the argument for punting — "has become less and less important."

Punts still do stand as the better option in many cases, for example on fourth and threes or more within an offense's own 30-yard line or so. But even at midfield it's statistically smarter to go for it on fourth and sixth, according to Burke's figures.

In fact, in most scenarios of score and time, when between an opponent's 45- and 30-yard line and facing a fourth down and 10 yards to go or less, offenses should stay on the field. A field goal adds up as a wiser move from about fourth and 11-plus at about the opponent's 33-yard line.

The author of this study feels the main reasons coaches don't go for it more on fourth down is psychological. They don't want to be held responsible for failure. Here's an NFL films segment about a successful high school team from Arkansas whose coach never punts or kicks field goals. He's 65-13 and been to three state championships. That alone doesn't prove anything. To me, the biggest predictor of success in high school sports, or any other, is having the horses to begin with. If you concentrate on recruiting the best athletes to come to your school, you can try all sorts of "Sam Wyche"-like plays and be successful.

Something tells me the professor of a similar study at 2:53 would much rather watch figure skating than football. As the 21 century cliche goes, I'm just saying...

Football Statistics Suggest Teams Should Go For It On Fourth Down

Buddy's pick

Buddy the Book was quick to downplay all the controversy surrounding Tom Brady's comments this week, "Brady's a gamer. He'll show up on Sunday, that I can guarantee you."

Buddy confided that he caught up with New England coach Bill Belichick last week at D'Orazio's Restaurant on Main Street in Clarence. "Bill and I met up to pick each other's brains a little bit and talk Xs and Os before the big game. Remember, it was me who warned this town about Belichick when he was an unknown Defensive Coordinator with the New York Giants."

Buddy was referring to 1990 when the Bills played the Giants in Super Bowl XXV. It was on this day that he endeared himself to the entire city by showing up to work at South Buffalo's Mercy Hospital wearing a Giants jersey. "Everyone is talking pass these days, but Bill and I discussed surprising the Giants by running the ball down their throats. We came up with a plan that should ensure a New England victory."

The Book would like to remind the readers, especially Herbie and the Ninja, that he is 25-5 against the spread when it comes to picking Super Bowls.

Evans' drop

Baltimore Ravens coach Jim Harbough is quickly gaining a reputation as a crybaby. Former Bill Lee Evans had the ball swatted out of his hands for an incompletion that would have won the game. Fans who read way too much into the rules, might try to make a claim that Evans completed the act of a catch. BS. As John Madden once said, one knee equals two feet and a catch is a catch, not a drop. Good call by the officials.

Had the play happened at midfield, Harbough would have been screaming that it was an incompletion. At least Evans owned up to it after the game and didn't make the same excuse as his lame coach...

"It’s really not a whole lot to say about it," said Evans barely above a whisper as tears welled in his eyes. "It is what you saw. It was an opportunity for us to go to the Super Bowl and I let it go."

The Bills' future in Buffalo

A bunch of clowns wearing suits say they are committed to keeping the Bills here in Buffalo. Don't trust anything a Cuomo says. Andrew would sell out Buffalo for a case of beer. The NFL these days is all about profit. Fan loyalty doesn't amount to a hill of beans. The fans have supported this franchise for decades and should not be held hostage.

The lowlifes at the top only care about the bottom line. Hoping the team stays here, but not losing any sleep over it, either...

Wack pack's NFL picks: week 16

Buddy the Book and the City Hall Rooster have submitted their picks for the final week of the NFL regular season. The Bills got some turnovers last week and got back on the winning track against Denver. My favorite part of the game was when Jesus Christ came down to the field at halftime and told Tim Tebow he sucked. Actually, I was one of the lucky ones not able to see the game thanks to the greedy NFL's blackout policy.

Buddy the Book

Buddy is going with Baltimore, Miami, Carolina, and San Francisco. The coldest winter I ever spent was summer in San Francisco.

For his "play of the week", he says to go with the Boston Patriots over the hometown Bills. Boston needs this game for home field advantage, and Buddy expects the Bills to run for the bus like Forrest Gump. "This game will be over with by halftime. Tom Brady is a terrific quarterback, but it doesn't even matter. The Patriots could start Tony Eason, or Tony Hammell for that matter, and we still wouldn't have a chance,"remarked the famous Book.

The OTB Boys (The Rooster and MacGavis)

Being our point man in city hall, it will be interesting to talk to the famous bird and find out what's really going on over there. Rich Fontana is quickly becoming the Fredo Corleone of the Buffalo Common Council.

I like it. The South District Common Councilman once told me a quote from Confucius, "To trust is good, to not trust, better." He probably didn't think I would remember, but the Blogger never forgets anything. Remember, if you work in city hall and you want a friend, get a dog.

The Rooster is concerned about the Buffalo point spread going down. Some casinos have it as (-10) leaving him confused. He wonders what the hell is going on, as he thinks this one will be ugly, early. (Everyone seems to agree with him, which makes me think it could end up being a close game). His prediction is Boston 48 Bills 27. He also points out that Tennessee needs a win but Texas doesn't. He says to "Remember the Titans"(-2.5).

The Rooster and company points out they are taking Minnesota over Chicago, but points out they have been drinking. Look for Kyle Orton of the Chiefs to play well against Denver, the team that cut him earlier this season. The Rooster says Tebow will be a Fullback within the next few years. Go with the Chiefs (+3).

The game of the day will be Dallas(+3) and the NY Football Giants for the NFC East title. The G-Men have been on a roll and Dallas has been inconsistent. But (and the Rooster points out that this but is bigger than Guido's butt) this is the NSL (No Sense League). For this reason alone, the Rooster says, "Go the Sandusky way and take the Boys."
