Random Thoughts From the Ghetto-Volume 12
I look out my window and see the empty 40 oz beer bottles, hypodermic needles, crack pipes and abandoned shopping carts on my front lawn and I begin to think. The end results have become known as my random thoughts from the ghetto...
-It's usually funny when somebody steps on a rake and the stick pops up and hits them in the face. Of course, it's one of those things that's funnier when it happens to someone else. It's kind of like falling on ice. The first thing we do is look (to make sure nobody else witnessed it). Then, we scream in pain and curse the Gods.
-This Drew Cerza guy is starting to make me sick. He stole the idea for his chicken wing festival from a local news reporter. Now, he's doing commercials for Pizza Hut. Please go away, nerd. You come across as a grandstander. We already have a male cheerleader for the city. His name is Byron Brown. You're about as charasmatic as Jarod from Subway. Goodbye.
-The family of Artie Smith is having a benefit for him this Sunday from 2-6PM at St. Agatha's Hall. It's $20. Artie is known to many in the South Park neighborhood. He is definitely a character. More importantly, he's good guy, a stand up guy, which some say is very rare these days. I know he's had some health problems in the past. I saw a sign for his fundraiser recently. He has been diagnosed with a form of cancer. (I haven't seen Smith in awhile but I plan on stopping by the benefit). If you know anyone from the neighborhood or you know Artie, please help spread the word.
-They say we should be on the lookout for Swine Flu scams. I can't believe how low some people will stoop. Whenever something like this happens, the opportunists come out of the woodwork. By the way, if you see a guy in a medical outfit at your local Tops lobby giving $30 vaccinations and he happens to look like me, I don't know what you're talking about.
-Does anyone remember the Towne movie theatre on Abbott and Ridge Rd? Friday night was known as 'welfare' night. You could catch an outdated movie for only 99 cents. That was a great idea as half the crowd tossed their pennies from the back rows throughout the movie. I never saw a giant rat inside but we all heard the stories. A friend of mine said he remembered the movie ET was up there for at least a full calendar year. It's no surprise the theatre finally failed. The only people who went were neighborhood kids yet the management felt the need to show movies like Ishtar and Out of Africa. The first rule of business is know your target audience.
-Rocks and debris fell down from the Statler in the middle of downtown and fortunately, nobody was hit. Of course, this is not surprising. Why would anyone be doing anything in the heart of downtown Buffalo's business district? Now, if the social services building on Pearl St. started falling apart, we would be in serious trouble. Go forth and sin no more...
