I found it funny that Mickey Paladino was upset with my recent post about his $7.50/hr job offer to a good friend of mine. What Mickey needs to realize is, that's what I do. If someone lies or takes credit for something they have nothing to do with, I expose them. And that's what people who read this blog have come to expect.

A lot of people wonder why Congressman Brian Higgins has been cool to Mickey since Kearns arrived on the political scene. I guess you have to put yourself in Higgins' shoes. Higgins had worked on Waterfront issues for well over a decade and had made some decent progress. Kearns gets elected to the Common Council and then starts showing up and taking credit for Higgins' work. He was able to fool some naive people for about ten minutes, but even they wised up.

Kearns record on the waterfront is zero. The only thing he's done is call on one study after another. Let's do a study on the Outer Harbor...Let's do a study on the Skyway...Of course, Higgins was furious. Could you imagine investing over a dozen years on a project, and then a B.S. artist shows up and acts like it's his project? That's exactly what Mickey Paladino did. 

One thing I've noticed about WNY politics over the years: If someone gets a reputation as a credit-taker or publicity hound, very few people are willing to work with them and they eventually fizzle out (see Sam Hoyt, Robert Quintana). I would urge Mickey Paladino to reach out to people in his district who have put in the time, and work with them. Instead of offering them $7.50/hour dead end jobs.

After several lengthy meetings, Mayor Byron Brown has announced that Halloween may be postponed due to Hurricane Sandy.

Seriously, this is probably the most important thing this man has done all week. It's too bad, because I was going to walk around in an empty suit and dress up as him this year. Has anyone explained to this Steve Urkell-looking dufus that Halloween is not a public holiday and has nothing to do with government? There are no jobs in the region, five people a night are getting shot on the East side, our public schools are in chaos, and this bozo is making announcements about trick-or-treating?

The Rooster's neighbor asked him if he was interested in a job at a local community center. The job paid a whopping $7.50/hour for 20 hours a week. A job like that is basically volunteer work. It's not worth the cost of gas getting one to and from the location. It's a job Mickey Kearns wouldn't have done if his life depended on it.

Two days later,  Kearns calls the Rooster and says he has procured a job for him ($7.50/hr at the community center). The Rooster explained to our elected liar that his neighbor offered him the same job earlier in the week. This guy will lie about anything if he thinks it will make him look good. Is he that dumb, that he thought he was doing the Rooster a favor? Why doesn't he just tell him, I'm not interested in helping you?  I am in Carl's pockets now and don't need your help anymore.

$80,000/yr plus an extra $20,000 in committee benefits for a guy specializing in fluff and nonsensical studies. I'm telling you. I educated you on other politicians. Mickey is exactly the same. The word will get out to people soon enough. I'm still waiting for him to propose one Albany reform, but not holding my breath.

We all knew this would come out. The Buffalo News at least waited until Father Joseph Moreno's body turned cold before airing his dirty laundry to the public. This article is sure to have more than a few Catholic families talking at the dinner table tomorrow...

But the priest had other troubling incidents in his past, including a 1989 conviction for attempted arson and falsely reporting an incident, and a 2005 bankruptcy filing in which he listed $447,000 in debts.

So, he tried to burn down a rectory in Springville. We all have bad days. I think it's safe to say Father Moreno was a troubled person, priest or no priest. He also apparently had scheduling problems...

At times in his priesthood, Moreno could be highly unpredictable, to the point of missing Masses for which he was scheduled to be the celebrant.

“You never knew where he was going to be. He was supposed to be saying Mass somewhere, and he was someplace else,” said another veteran priest who requested anonymity.

Then, the News points out this bizarre story from 2006...

Clergy observers said Moreno fabricated or embellished stories about himself. In 2006, for example, he told Buffalo police he fought off a 6-foot-5, knife-wielding burglar who cut the priest's hand, requiring treatment at a local hospital.

Fellow priests suspect there was no burglar at all, and police said the case generated no leads and hasn't been solved.

Hey, maybe the burglar was Bishop Mansell. He was well over six feet tall, wasn't he? Or perhaps it was Tony Masiello.

 There are even more stories in the News' article. Makes me wonder what their motivation is in writing it. By most accounts, Father Joe did very good work helping the poor. But it sounds to me like his mental health issues were never properly addressed. By the way, who says the mass if the priest doesn't show up?

This is a story that will have a lot of people talking around WNY. Local developer Carl Paladino has gotten complaints from a few of his customers at Thrifty Rental Cars (Yes, Carl owns one of those, too.) Apparently, Paladino had anti-Obama bumper stickers placed on the rental cars.

The stickers said Vote for the American, an apparent reference to the belief by some that Obama is not an American citizen. Paladino says this is not what he meant...

“I'm not a birther, I'm an American,” he declared. He said he was “fed up” with Obama after the attack and murder of four Americans at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11. He said the president is not telling the truth about what happened and that Obama defies basic American precepts and has weakened the country.

“For that reason, I don't believe he is an American. I don't think he fosters the American ideals,” Paladino said. “I could care less where Obama was born. I don't feel he is an American with American values doing the best for America.”

While one can argue whether Obama is a good President or a lousy one, I don't understand the questioning of his patriotism. I wasn't a huge fan of George W. Bush and am not a huge fan of Obama, but I've never viewed either as being anti-American.

It will be interesting to see if the ultra liberals oppose Thrifty or the ultra Conservatives flock to use it's services. The whole thing reminds me of the Chick-fil-A restaurant down South, which became a rallying point for the Conservative movement after the owner spoke out against gay marriage. In any event, Carl always keeps things interesting...

This guy in Brazil gives new meaning to the phrase "you'd be late to your own funeral." A man incorrectly identified the body of a deceased car washer. Everyone was mourning at a wake at the mother's house when the thought to be dead man showed up asking what was for dinner...

"The confusion started when news started circulating that a car washer had been shot dead," Jose Marcos' wife, Ana Paula, told the UOL Internet news portal. "Police called my husband and told him that his brother had been killed and his body was at the morgue."

When Araujo showed up at his wake "some people fainted and others were so scared they ran away. It was a big shock," family friend Maria Menezes told the G1 online news site.

Stories like this seem to be happening quite often, lately. And they always seem centered in Brazil. The funniest part is the fact that grown adults would run out of the house scared over something so easily explained.

NFL picks with Buddy and the Rooster

Mercifully, the NFL scheduling Gods have given Bills fans a bye this week, just in time for Hurricane Sandy. This season has reminded me of a 16 week wake. All we heard all summer was how great this team was going to be. Mario Williams has looked more like Mario Andretti. Last week, they lost a highly winnable game leaving Western New Yorkers frustrated. But not me. Since I don't have cable, I caught about half of one quarter and then found something else to occupy my time.

 

Speaking of upset, Buddy the Book was furious at his Alma Mater's performance last week at Fitzpatrick Field. The Timon Tigers lost to Canisius in a close game. "It's all about tackling", said Buddy. Arm tackles will not get it done against a tough team like the Crusaders." Tonight, Timon hopes to get back on track with a win against St. Francis Was-a-sissy. For some reason, St. Francis isn't as good in years when they don't have 25 year old Canadian recruits in their backfield.

Buddy is again sticking with his beloved Tigers. He's also predicting a St. Blows victory over Canishus in another chapter of their storied rivalry.He's also taking the lowly KC Chiefs with the points, Philly, Carolina, and his cherished Boston Patriots.

When Mac woke up late Sunday after killing forty beers with someone we wont mention, he commended me on me picking the Bills. He slept through the last couple of minutes and into the late game. He asked me if I would keep picking the Bills. I confidently answered and said that I would pick the Bills this week not to lose.Its the safest bet I've ever made. Thank God for the bye week.

Buffalo is becoming known as the art capital of North America. Who else has had more "artist renditions" than us over the last 30 years? The new Peace Bridge, the 12 new proposed Convention Centers, the new casino, the new South Bflo library, and now the new waterfront stadium. The first sign that a project isn't going to get off the ground is when some politician shows up at a Council meeting with pictures. Mickey Kearns is famous for this. If he wasn't already known throughout the area as the King of all Studies, he could easily be the King of the artist rendition. 

Two gentlemen showed up at a Buffalo Common Council meeting the other day with an artist rendition of the new $1.4 Billion stadium for the Outer Harbor. The second red flag, besides the silly photos, is the fact that they showed up at the Council Chambers. Is there a more irrelevant group to a $1.4 Billion project than the Buffalo Common Council? They might has well have shown up at a local Burger King and pitched their idea to random customers. They would have about as much influence as the Council in a project this big.

The whole thing was just a publicity stunt. Brian Higgins, the NFL, and Mark Poloncarz have all spoken out against putting a stadium there. And I agree. The people want access to the water. Tear down my neighborhood and put the stadium there, if they want to build a stadium. Put the 50 yard line in my living room. I'd be the first to sell. In any event, as I said yesterday, the area should not be bullied by the NFL. If the current stadium (Rich Stadium) is good enough for the average fan, it should be good enough for the NFL. I love football, but do not like the NFL putting a gun to the head of an entire region.

Laura Cassidy sent me this article. It's funny how, according to polls, Americans hate Congress, but can't wait to show up and vote for their Congressperson. Warren Buffett believes Congress could fix the national debt in five minutes if their careers were threatened.

Congress and all political positions were never intended to be careers by the Founding Fathers. Elected officials were supposed to serve for a few years and then go back to their jobs. We all know how that has worked out. Buffett has proposed what he calls the Congressional Reform Act of 2012. He is encouraging everyone to email his points to at least 20 recipients. He has some interesting ideas. It would be nice if people realized that these crooks work for us and not the corporations who currently control them. Here is Buffett's message in it's entirety...

1. NO Tenure/NO Pension
A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives NO pay when they're out of office.
  
2. Congress  (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately.
 All future funds flow into the Social Security   system, and  Congress participates with the American people.  
It  may not be used for any other  purpose.
  
3. Congress  can purchase their own retirement plan, just  as all Americans  do.
  
4. Congress   will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.
Congressional pay  will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
  
5. Congress  loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American  people.

The Founding  Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person  contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take  three days for most people (in the U.S. ) to receive the  message. Don't you think it's time?

Moving all the Bills' home games to Hamilton, Ontario is a terrific idea, said nobody ever. Local developer Rocco Termini must be jealous of Carl Paladino hogging the "crazy" label all for himself if he thinks people will fall for this. I don't know if anyone explained to Termini that Hamilton is in another country and the team would then have no ties to Buffalo whatsoever. 

Why don't they just play all their home games in Moscow? We can still call the team the Buffalo Bills. 90% of WNYorkers think Termini is on crack, based on a poll WBEN has on the topic today. I am so sick of hearing about the Bills potentially leaving. I've followed the team since I was eight years old, but if they left, I'd very easily find something else to do with my time. When they lose a game, I'm upset for about 30 seconds, 35 seconds if it's close. 

If the NFL doesn't want teams with loyal fans in blue collar cities, then leave. I remember when professional football was a blue collar sport followed by working class people. It's gotten so big, it's become all about luxury boxes and revenue. I think most people are in agreement. Moving to Hamilton is a terrible idea.

Stop annoying robocalls

 
When Congress enacted the Do Not Call Registry six years ago, they were nice enough to exempt themselves. Would you expect anything less from this group of career criminals?

Robocalls are another tool the machine backed politicians use to brainwash the elderly voters. Almost every person over 60 in South Buffalo has heard of the name Tim Kennedy because of these harassing phone calls. But unless you actually meet Tim, you would have no way of knowing he is a developmentally challenged adult in a suit.

There is a man trying to change all of this, and I hope his movement spreads...

So there is no manner of legal recourse you can take to stop political calls to your home, but Shaun Dakin has started a non-profit registry called Stop Political Calls.org.

The program calls all state and congressional representatives and asks if they will accept the list of their own constituents who do not want to be called.

Ridge Rd. Ponderosa

One time, I was at the Ponderosa Steakhouse on Ridge Rd. in West Seneca. I was 10 years old and the year was 1982. Asia was the talk of the music world and Paulo Rossi got out of jail just in time to lead Italy to it's first World Cup Championship in nearly 40 years.

There was no line at the Ponderosa salad bar. It was every man for himself. So, I saw an opening and went to grab the three or four edible things on the menu, and in the process  blocked an old man from getting to his croutons (that had probably been in a box for two years). The man (who was in his late 60s/early 70s) said, "Get the hell out of my way you little dago!" My quick response to him was, "I'm not even Italian, dude!" I went back to my table and told my friends how "jive" the whole encounter was. I think the man was probably surprised that any 10 year olds were even familiar with the racial slurs of the day.

The inside of the salad bar at Ponderosa was a story in and of itself. The white trash fat slobs were in such a hurry to gorge themselves that half the items on their plates fell into the bar onto other stuff. If you liked sweet and sour dressing, you were also forced to eat someone else's bacon bits and who the hell knows what else. Some of the things in the salad dressing were living. Every four hours or so, a worker would come by and attempt to clean up, but by that time, the damage had already been done. Man, I miss that place.

Why didn't we think of this?

 

"Hey, something doesn't taste right with this hot dog." Police in New Jersey uncovered a warehouse where fake Heintz Ketchup was being manufactured and sold. It's hard to believe any type of organized crime would be taking place in New Jersey. Come to think of it, the last bottle of ketchup I purchased from the Brothers Deli in Lackawanna did kind of taste like New Jersey...

DOVER, N.J. (CNN/News 12 New Jersey) -Nearly 2,000 bottles of ketchup were left in a stuffy warehouse in New Jersey. Some of the bottles exploded and spilled, attracting flies and sending a nasty stench next door to neighbors who alerted authorities.

Officials with Dover's Health and Zoning Board came to investigate and found nearly 50,000 pounds of ketchup. They also found empty bottles, labels with the Heinz logo, and equipment.

I thought this was pretty cool. Here's South Buffalo's own, John "Circ" Kane, on ABC' Good Morning America, introducing some Chinese acrobats. Circ grew up on Pawnee Parkway, off of Mineral Springs. From what I'm told, he used to perform magic shows in the family basement. The shows were so popular, kids (his own age) from all over the neighborhood used to check them out. I did meet Kane once, and he's very well liked by those who know him. I give him credit for doing what he wanted to do in life...

Since Mickey Kearns was just joking when he said he would fight corruption in Albany, I guess it will be up to me...

The NY Post did an article on the Per Diems that the New York State lawmakers give themselves. It was a real eye opener to me. They essentially get taxpayer funds to sleep in second homes (or claim to sleep in second homes) while in Albany. Many of them use our money to support their investments...

New York lawmakers who sleep over in their own Albany-area second homes rake in $165 a night if they claim they must stay over for official business.

Under the Legislature’s loose “per diem” reimbursement system — for which no receipts or other proof are required — Assembly members and state senators who own houses or condos near the Capitol collect the same payments as those who stay in hotels.

Governor Cuomo wants to end the per diem scam by getting rid of it in exchange for pay raises for the Albany criminals. He clearly is out of touch with the average citizen who is against both per diems AND pay raises (which they clearly don't deserve). Do these scum work for us or do we work for them?

With all we already know about these parasites, I find it funny that they are essentially on the honor system to request these per diems. I mean, what could possibly go wrong? Just a few examples...

-In one week alone, The Post found, Assemblywoman Vivian Cook (D-Queens) pocketed $2,197 for claiming she spent 12 consecutive nights on “legislative business.” The Assembly was in session three of those days and Cook was absent for all three.

-Brooklyn Assemblyman William Boyland Jr., who is under indictment, claimed multiple per diems on days he met with undercover FBI agents in Brooklyn and Manhattan to discuss bribes, records show.

I'm excited, since I know Mickey Kearns and Little Timmy Kennedy are going to stand up for us and demand that the per diems be eliminated. Yeah, that's going to happen. In the meantime, we will be doing some research and finding out how much Mickey and Timmy are claiming for themselves. What a scam!

Local scammer targeting the elderly on S. Park

 

If you have elderly relatives living in South Buffalo, please be aware of a prolific scam artist working the South Park neighborhood. Believe it or not, it's not me. 

This guy likes to knock on doors and claim to live on the street. In one case, he even mentioned the name of someone who actually did live on the street. He'll say he's in a bind and needs $20 and that he'll be right back with it. Needless to say, he never comes back. One of the victims followed him to Noco (he went by bus), where he purchased cigarettes and booze. Another man met him there in a car.

I personally know three people who have been harassed by this lowlife. Two of them were taken for money. All three describe him as a very convincing salesman. They all say they didn't realize he was a scammer until a few minutes after he left. The man is described as short and stocky with blonde hair which is turning grey. He appears to have legitimate ties to the neighborhood, based on the proximity of his victims. If this man knocks on your door, do not let him in or give him money. Get a description of his clothes and call South District Police. Also, please spread the word to your relatives. Had I known he went to the Noco gas station, I would have had them look at the surveillance video to identify this crack baby. Unfortunately, this was several months ago.

Again, I'm sticking with the Bills.The Titans defense sucks. The Bills run defense has sucked so far this year. Could be a good over play,but be careful this might be an on the  ground day. I think the Bills D will step it up and the Bills will blow Tennessee the finger: Buffalo 34 Titans 17.

 

This will be the Bills stepping stone to the play offs.Yes I said the Playoffs. Know I didn't drink 90 beers in a weekend like Mac once did in Chicago. This league is right where Pete Rozelle wanted it to be. On any given Sunday, any team can win.The Bills streak started Sunday. When the Bills beat New England in Foxboro in a couple weeks, people will start believing. Lets win it for Ralph will be the cry, or the Gipper or anyone of those dead guys. Whata ya mean Ralph isn't dead?

Ten years ago, it was the Catholic Church. This week, the crap hit the fan for the Boy Scouts of America. It turns out, many of the scout leaders from the 60s, 70s, and 80s liked being around the boys a bit too much. The hierchy's policy was to turn their back on the crimes and pretend they weren't happening. Now, a known pervert's list has been uncovered from the Scouts' internal documents. I always wondered what they made the kids do to earn those silly little badges.

In any event, ABC News did this story yesterday on the whole scandal. It will be interesting to see how many Western New Yorkers made the list. I'm sure the local news hawks will do some special Where Are They Now? updates...

Like a fungus that won't go away, Chuck Swanick refuses to leave the WNY political scene. Despite repeated requests by voters to do so. Don't believe for a second that Sweaterhead knocked on 7,000 doors. In fact, don't believe a word this man says. If that were true, 6,000 people would have asked him to leave their property. I have no preference in this race, but I can tell you a vote for Chuckles is a wasted vote.

He's taking a lot of money from Pro-Family groups to run. Swanick was in office way too long and should be ashamed to show his face in Erie County again after decades of failed leadership on the Erie County Legislature. His tenure was marked by the mass exodus of hundreds of thousands of young people. It took years, but the people are finally onto him. People who worked with Swanick at CSX describe him as a "blowhard." Don't waste your vote. Vote for one of the Gynies  but don't vote for Swanick. He's an opportunist with no core values. If the Gay Rights groups were offering him money, he'd be with them. It just happens that the other group is pulling his strings this time. Don't fall for this used car salesman. Please let this be the last time I see this guy's face in print.

Mychajliw: Still willing to ask the tough questions

 
I'm supporting Stefan Mychajliw for County Comptroller because I believe he will stand up to the County Executive on financial issues. The current Comptroller, David Shenk, was appointed and is basically a rubber stamp for Mark Poloncarz. Poloncarz recently announced his plan to raise property taxes in Erie County. Yet, we haven't heard a peep out of County Comptroller David Shenk. Why? Because Poloncarz was the guy who handpicked Shenk for his job! Would you speak out against your boss? So much for checks and balances. An independent Comptroller would point out some ways in which the County could save money by changing the way they do business.

When Mychajliw was a reporter at WGRZ, the politicians hated him, because he asked them the questions the people wanted asked. He has vowed to continue this style should he get elected. I encourage everyone to educate themselves on the candidates and form their own opinion. Don't take my word for it. Decide for yourself. Here's Mychajliw's 30 second YouTube commercial. He describes himself as cheap (not in this video) and drives a car with 130,000 miles on it. Just the type of person we want looking over our tax dollars...

Pay raises for state lawmakers must be opposed

 

I told you to hold onto your wallets when you voted for Andrew Cuomo. The Cuomos love nothing more than toll increases, raising taxes, and giving pay raises to their political friends. Now, Andrew says he won't consider giving state lawmakers the raise they are trying to steal, UNLESS they support raising the minimum wage and decriminalizing the possession of small amounts of pot. He calls this tradeoff the "people's business". 

I got news for Cuomo: the people are watching and they've already spoken out emphatically against any type of raise for the criminals currently occupying Albany. The people are not stupid and are finally realizing that these politicians (including Kearns, Grisanti, and Tim "Hortons") do absolutely nothing. You could train your dog to do the job of a NY state Assemblyman/Senator. We know these people, we live next door to them, and we know how useless they are, Andrew. 

These talentless, do-nothings are already grossly overpaid. Any kind of pay increase would be viewed as a slap in the face to the middle class. I appreciate the number of people who read this blog and I will continue to monitor this issue. Any kind of raise is unacceptable and we should really be talking about pay decreases for these people.

 When Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz promised to restore funding to cultural groups to get elected, he never said he would raise property taxes to do it.


Don't be fooled by County Executive Mark Poloncarz or the scam artists in the Erie County Legislature. Property taxes do not have to be raised. These people are addicted to spending our money. They're using words like "modest" to describe the proposed tax increase. There is nothing modest about the amount of taxes we already pay around here...

Poloncarz, a Democrat, has described his proposal as a “modest” tax increase that was necessary in order to avoid cuts to discretionary areas of the budget that he pledged to restore when he campaigned for office last year, including the libraries and aid to local cultural organizations.

“We heard from the public last year saying, ‘We demand these services,’ ” Poloncarz told reporters Monday.

So, he promised to restore funding to all the cultural groups to get elected, but never thought about how he would get it done. That's not our fault. Poloncarz made news recently when his brother, a Wegmans chef, was recently given a no-show job at the Erie County Water Authority. Was this a "modest" job?

Career politician Lynn Marinelli joined Poloncarcz in using the libraries and other culturals as an excuse to steal more of our money...

Those services – unlike larger expense items such as federally mandated social service programs – are the areas over which elected officials have the most control.

“They have to indicate to not just myself, but their representatives: Are they willing to pay to have those services?” said Legislator Lynn M. Marinelli, a Town of Tonawanda Democrat. “[Only] 10 percent of the margin of our budget is discretionary.”

Here's my proposal to Poloncarz and Marinelli and anyone else supporting this tax increase: Come up with a plan to restore the culturals without increasing taxes. If you can't do it, don't seek reelection. Read the Blogger's lips: "No new taxes!" The County's tax base is declining because of inept career politicians like Marinelli. Do not be fooled by these lowlifes. Raising property taxes will simply give these crooks more of our money to hire more of their friends and relatives. Spread the word to your friends and help us stop this scam in it's infancy.

Never one to shy away from the use of the race card,  Betty "the Professor" Grant has contacted the local media with an anonymous letter sent to her signed "KKK"...

Monday night, Grant emailed us saying today at her office, she opened a letter that was postmarked October 3rd, threatening her and her family harm, if she didn't give up trying to win the election.
Grant says she will forward the letter, which she says was signed "the KKK,"to local authorities and the FBI.  She says she has no idea who sent it.

Local police, the F.B.I., and Galleria Mall Security Guards have all been notified in hopes of finding the cowardly letter writer. 

F.B.I. criminal profiler Tom White says the suspect is most likely a black or white man or woman between the ages of 20 and 78. He or she is probably a loner, but may also be gregarious and outgoing. White thinks the letter writer may have experience in the military or law enforcement. For unknown reasons, White also believes the letter writer might be a fan of the TV show Alf.
